Position Information: The BH Licensed Clinician (BHLC) is responsible for the provision of mental health and substance use services at WakeMed. via in person and tele assessments. The BHLC provides emergency Psychiatric and Substance use clinical assessments, diagnoses patients using DSM-5, ICD10-codes, offers appropriate crisis intervention/supportive counseling/social work interventions, and responds to ED BHRTs. . Focuses on diagnostic and functional evaluations, safety assessments, patient engagement and or support system effectiveness. Collaborates with the multi-disciplinary team including physicians, psychiatry and psychology staff. Decides and communicates disposition and level of care.
This includes facilitating voluntary and involuntary commitments as directed by the physician. Assists with diagnostic clarification, post-discharge treatment recommendation, identification of treatment options, high-risk behavior mitigation and prevention planning. Advises patient, family and responsible medical providers, as needed, to improve quality and continuum of care. Participates in hospital and community initiatives that address mental health and substance use issues. Provides expertise in mental health and substance use issues to the multi-disciplinary team including in-service education and support. Maintains a working knowledge of relevant behavioral health, medical, legal issues that impact patients and the hospital system. Documents assessment, dispositions, interactions conversations etc. according to department guidelines and standards. Can work independently, can prioritize and manage time efficiently. Flexibility in accepting diverse work assignments and managing stress related to change and the ability to resolve/ manage conflict.

Experience Requirements: 2 Years Clinical – Mental Health Or 2 Years Clinical – Substance Abuse/Addiction Required Education Required: Master’s Degree Counseling Or Psychology Or Marriage and Family Therapy Or Social Work Required Licensure/Certification Requirements: Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Or Licensed Clinical Social Worker Or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Or Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate Or Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate Or Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate Required – And Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist Preferred Certified Notary Required – Within 1 Year of Hire Hours of Work: Four 12 hour day shifts per month and one major and one minor holiday a year Weekend Requirements: As Needed Call Requirements: None
