Great Falls, Montana, JOB SUMMARY: The Operational Improvement Intern will be exposed to collaborative and interdepartmental work aimed at engaging in the planning and implementation of improvement methodologies throughout Benefis Health System with the intent of assisting the organization in achieving its strategic priorities. As such, this position will support Operational Improvement Engineers in data aggregation, data analysis, and the deployment of the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Anaylize, Improve, Control) framework. Additionally, this position will support efforts around planning and coordinating solution design, defining and documenting project milestones, and outlining schedules for completion. As an integral part of the Operational Improvement Team, the Operational Improvement Intern will learn to place strong emphasis on the following outcomes: achievement of long-term clinical and organizational quality outcomes, continued cost reduction, enhanced revenue capture, lead time reduction, strategic business growth, aggressive development and dissemination of best practices, and systemic elimination of waste. FLSA: EXEMPT DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Works closely and collaboratively with all department members. Supports the efforts of the Operational Improvement Department in its overall support of Benefis Health System. Demonstrates the appropriate amount of initiative and independence as it pertains to the responsibilities of the position and how it interfaces with the rest of the healthcare team. Assists in identifing areas which would benefit from improvement activities across Benefis Health System. Works to learn practical application of core business consulting processes and methodologies. Applies knowledge of problem-solving methodologies, tools for data analytics, and process improvement techniques.

Assists in providing analytical data interpretation, consultation, and education. Assists in identifying and eliminating wasteful activities or processes in the organization. Demonstrates high level or organizational skills and attention to detail. Demonstrates the ability to deal with pressure to meet deadlines, operate with a high level of accuracy, and to handle constantly changing situations. Professional Requirements: Adheres to dress code. Completes annual educational requirements. Maintains regulatory requirements Wears identification while on duty Maintains confidentiality at all times. Attends department staff meetings as required within the department Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work in designated time. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.

Education/Experience Requirements: Enrolled in the Final Years of Baccalaureate Studies (Junior or Senior)* Pursuing a Degree in Industrial, Systems, or Process Engineering, OR Enrolled in Graduate Studies Pursuing a Degree in Industrial, Systems, or Process Engineering, OR Enrolled in Graduate Studies Pursuing a Degree in Business Administration (MBA), Healthcare Administration (MHA), or Related Field *Relevant Coursework: Work Design and Analysis; Production and Engineering Management; Project Management; Quality Management Systems. These or similar courses are necessary to fully engage as an intern in Operational Improvement.
