Description The Burke Cardiomyopathy Lab at the Emory School of Medicine studies the molecular basis of heart failure, a common and deadly disease. We are seeking a talented and engaged post-doctoral candidate to join our laboratory. Expected skills include basic molecular methods such as DNA/RNA handling, PCR, cloning, cell culture, western blotting, and immunohistochemistry. The competitive applicant will either have experience with mouse handling and husbandry or be willing to gain significant experience in this area as part of working in this laboratory. Training undergraduate students in basic molecular methods such as pipetting and simple experiments may also be required occasionally. Description JOB DESCRIPTION: Under minimal supervision, performs a variety of specialized and complex research and laboratory tests and procedures. Uses independent judgment in applying or adapting scientific techniques. Performs troubleshooting to optimize experimental design.
Assists in protocol design and project planning as part of the training process. As per division requirements, post-doctoral fellows will present their research in the Emory Cardiology Division weekly lab meeting and will submit an abstract of their research annually for presentation at the Emory Department of Medicine Research day as well as the Cardiology Research Day. Writing of abstracts, preparation of posters and/or oral presentations for local or national meetings, and manuscript writing of primary research findings. Assists in planning and scheduling research procedures. Analyzes and interprets results of studies. Demonstrates and trains others in the proper use/operation of laboratory techniques and equipment. Maintains appropriate training requirements for EHSO/DAR/IACUC/IRB as indicated by project scope and lab responsibilities in order to maintain quality assurance standards. Records results of studies, compiles and analyzes data and prepares charts and graphs. Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Advanced degree (i.
e. , PhD and/or MD) with significant prior lab-based research experience. Experience with molecular biology techniques such as Western Blot, PCR, RNA, histology etc. The qualified applicant will be T32-eligible. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with mouse handling and husbandry, or willingness to learn.
