Overview
The Advanced Lung Disease and Transplantation Clinical Research Fellowship of Northwell Health is a new position managed in a collaborative effort by the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery and the Department of Medicine. This research fellowship was created to support and promote academic and research activities to advance the scientific knowledge base in the field of advanced lung disease. Our researchers and departments are best suited to manage this research fellowship. The Sandra Atlas Bass Heart Hospital at North Shore University Hospital is the first and only full-service destination for Cardiac and Lung Transplantation in Nassau, Suffolk, Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island, and across all Northwell locations.  The Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research of Northwell Health is well known for its high-quality research and is the home of 50 research labs. Located near the Heart Hospital, The Feinstein Institutes affords our clinical researchers access to an abundance of resources, including, but not limited to, a laboratory animal vivarium. The Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery has its own dedicated and distinct team of researchers including a PhD in Biostatistics, a master’s prepared statistician, research investigators, residents in training, an associate research manager, and a data manager. Equally the Department of Medicine investigators are prolific and well-published in peer-review journals and have presented at top national and international scientific meetings. Endowment to this fellowship will support a wide range of ongoing and new clinical research to examine important topics such as the pathophysiology of transplanted lungs, clinical risk factors, current clinical practice in the management of the advanced lung failure, drug and device therapies, patient experience, and short- and long-term outcomes after lung transplant. 
 
{ Requirements
The clinical research fellow position means a post-graduate residency position which:
 

shall report directly to the Medical Director, Advanced Lung Disease & Transplantation and have a dotted line reporting structure to the Program Director, Integrated and Independent Thoracic Surgery Residencies & Professor of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery
shall have a dotted line reporting structure to Principal Investigators conducting advanced lung disease and transplantation research at Northwell Health.

shall be a graduate of an accredited medical school or a resident or graduate of an ACGME accredited residency program and if current, shall remain in excellent academic standing with permission from Program Director and Chairman to apply for dedicated clinical research fellowship.

shall be the equivalent to a full-time position comprising of no less than forty hours per week.
shall be reimbursed by grant funding.
shall be completed in 12-month time frame as structured by usual fellowship standards, starting July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023, and so forth.

shall exceed the minimum standards required by a residency review committee in the specialty the research fellow has trained or is currently training.
shall be filled by a research fellow who will receive formalized instruction in clinical research, including biostatistics, clinical trial design, research ethics, grant writing and regulatory guidelines and further provides that

shall be supervised by a sponsor-mentor who is a member of the research team with experience as Principal Investigator and who remains current with Northwell Health Research Policy & Procedures and
shall be filled by a research fellow who is:

a United States or Canadian citizen, national or permanent resident of the United States or Canada and
a graduate of medical school.

Full-time clinical training compensation at Northwell Health ranges from $70K to $90K, which is impacted by various factors, including but not limited to physician specialty, level of experience, quality of care, academic accomplishments, patient experience and productivity. The base compensation range listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
