Organization: HTT Job Summary: LifeFlight’s Helipad Transport Team is a key component of the patient flow system at Vanderbilt University Adult Hospital. This team assists incoming aircraft with patient off-load and transport to receiving units and provides important updates to the receiving units. In many cases, the team will assume patient care on the helipad from the transporting aircraft teams. .
Department Summary Vanderbilt LifeFlight has transported more than 45,000 patients since it began in 1984. LifeFlight is a key part of a trauma system that includes pre-hospital care, definitive care, rehabilitation and injury prevention. Vanderbilt LifeFlight is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Trauma Systems (CAMTS). LifeFlight operates as a community asset and will transport to any appropriate hospital and has immediate access to Level I Trauma Center, Burn Center and Children’s Hospital, all at Vanderbilt. All air operations are provided by Air Methods Corporation . Vanderbilt University Medical Center provides all medical staffing, patient care, and clinical services. In 2020 Vanderbilt LifeFlight was named the Program of the Year by the Association of Air Medical Services and is the first flight/ground program in Tennessee to receive this honor. Read more about the award here . LifeFlight provides service via nine helicopters (eight bases and one helicopter serves as backup), one fixed-wing aircraft (airplane), and 28 ground ambulances. There are eight air bases located in Gallatin (Sumner County), Tullahoma (Coffee County), Clarksville (Montgomery County), Murfreesboro (Rutherford County), Mt.
Pleasant (Maury County), Paris (Henry County), Cookeville (Putnam County) and Humboldt (Gibson County). There are four ground ambulance bases in Davidson, Wilson, Montgomery, and Coffee counties. There is an airplane base in Wilson County. These assets provide rapid access to definitive care for all of Middle Tennessee, parts of West and East Tennessee, Southern Kentucky, and Northern Alabama. Staffed by highly trained flight physicians, fight nurse practitioners, flight nurses, critical care/flight paramedics, paramedics, EMT/AEMTs, communicators, and pilots, LifeFlight provides the highest level of care during transport. LifeFlight’s Communications Center is made up of a team of licensed EMTs and Paramedics that serve as a Regional Medical Communications Center (RMCC) for Middle Tennessee, as well as communications for the Monroe Carrell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt Neonatal and Pediatric ground ambulances, Vanderbilt LifeFlight’s ground EMS and Event Medicine ambulances. This team dispatches any stat emergency calls throughout the medical center campus, monitor weather conditions, and track more than 10,000 take off and landings at the Vanderbilt helipads. * Transports patients via various modes of transportation while providing quality ALS and Critical Care management to all ages.
* Responds to emergency requests within Vanderbilt, Vanderbilt sponsored or other contracted events.
* Utilizes the problem solving model to independent resolve patient problems and follow through with HCT to implement solutions.
* Identifies patient and unit problems and finds solutions to resolve problems and follows through to implement solutions.
* Effectively communicates patient handover to the health care team.

* Medication Management (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate Medication Management in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Conducted a comprehensive and systematic assessment of a persons ability to comply with a prescribed medication regime. Conducted an in depth, systematic review of a persons current and past medication history including details of prescription dates, prescribed doses, side effects, interactions and outcomes. Demonstrates enough acumen to recognize problems and to contact the patient’s primary care provider.
* Assessing, Intervening & Stabilizing Patients (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate assessing, intervening and stabilizing patients in practical applications of moderate difficulty.
