Full Time: 40 Hours Per Week 1st Shift: 8am – 4:30pm Monday – Friday Location: Akron – Onsite Summary: The Rebecca D. Considine Research Institute in conjunction with the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Akron Children’s Hospital is seeking a Clinical Research Scientist with expertise in clinical outcomes research / epidemiology. This scientist will lead a growing high impact orthopedic research team. Akron Children’s Hospital has the largest pediatric primary care network in Ohio, is the 8th largest children’s hospital in the nation, and was ranked 16th worldwide in the 2022 Newsweek ranking of best pediatric hospitals. The Department of Orthopedic Surgery, ranked 25th in the 2022 US News&amp World Report Best Pediatric Orthopedic programs, is leveraging its 13 surgeons, 40,000 annual visits and 3000 annual surgical volume to develop a robust clinical research infrastructure to impact the quality and care of pediatric orthopedic patients and disseminate impactful clinical research.

The trajectory of clinical and academic growth within the department is highlighted by recent designation of a Spine Center of Excellence, affiliation as the primary medical provider with the University of Akron for Division 1 athletic sports health coverage, construction of a new Clinical Motion Analysis Laboratory, and recruitment of pediatric orthopedic clinical and research fellows. This position provides opportunity for a clinical research scientist to perform independent research, lead and mature departmental research personnel and infrastructure, collaborate with surgeons as research partners, collaborate with regional university researchers, mentor trainees and junior researchers, manage departmental participation in multicenter registries, secure external research funding, and ultimately lead multicenter clinical registries from Akron Children’s Hospital. This position and the recent expansion of clinical research staff within the department both validate the department and institution’s commitment to pediatric orthopedic outcomes research with the goal of elevating pediatric health. Responsibilities: 1. Perform independent research. 2. Supervise/manage research staff, lab staff, students, postdoctoral associates, or other research personnel. 3. Participate in Institute scientific reviews. 4.

Publish high quality research articles. 5. Seek and procure grant funding for research commensurate with rank of Associate Research Scientist. 6. Other duties as required. Other information: Technical Expertise 1. Experience working with all levels within an organization is preferred. 2. Experience in healthcare is preferred. 3.

Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word] or similar software is required. Education and Experience 1. Education: PhD or equivalent experience. 2. Certification: None required. 3. Years of experience: Minimum four (4) years’ experience in the Assistance Scientist level role (or equivalent). Substantial achievement may be substituted for years of experience, on a case by case basis. 4. Candidate must have prior success at securing sponsored research, contracts and external grants.
