Organization: MOR Cardiac Surgery 20 Job Summary: Assists the surgeon in the operative procedure. Initiates appropriate intra-operative behaviors unique to first assisting. Applies knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology, and operative technique relative to operative procedures. Conducts pre-operative assessment of patient needs, and family education.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Conducts systematic, ongoing assessment of the patient’s health status throughout the perioperative experience.
* Possesses the essential mental discipline and fine motor skills to provide technical assistance to the surgeon.
* Uses surgical instruments to assist the surgeon and facilitate the surgical intervention.
* Serves as educator, mentor, consultant and resource to patients, colleagues, other health care professionals and the community.

* Mentoring & Coaching (Novice): Constructively trains and mentors others by providing positive direction and feedback. Has provided constructive suggestions to improve a situation.

* Environmental Sterility & Safety (Intermediate): Demonstrates mastery of environmental sterility and safety in practical applications of a difficult nature. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering environmental sterility and safety services without requiring support and instruction from others. Able to train and educate by setting the example, giving technical instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job.
* Surgical Assistance (Intermediate): Demonstrates mastery of surgical assistance in practical applications of a difficult nature. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering surgical assistance services without requiring support and instruction from others. Able to train and educate by setting the example, giving technical instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job.
* Surgical Equipment Knowledge (Intermediate): Demonstrates mastery of the equipment and related devices. Has solid knowledge of performance criteria.

Able to use the equipment to accomplish advanced tasks associated with the specific devices. Easily resolves equipment problems.
