Global Health Council

Nationwide, Global Health Council (GHC) is now accepting applications for a Policy and Legislative Affairs (PLA) Intern to support our Advocacy & Engagement team. GHC is the leading membership organization devoted to advancing global health priorities by uniting advocates, implementers, policymakers, and other stakeholders. Using the power of our community’s collective voice, we work across disease areas to drive sustainable funding and equitable policies that improve global health and well-being for all.
The Advocacy & Engagement team leads GHC’s policy and advocacy with Congress, the Administration, and multilateral organizations. As a PLA Intern, you will gain experience with the legislative process in a hands-on way. You will support the day-to-day legislative activities needed to implement GHC’s policy goals including tracking and monitoring relevant global health policy issues and legislation, and coordinate and participate in Hill or Administration events. You may also contribute to the research and preparation of advocacy documents that support GHC’s advocacy and policy work.

Essential Functions:

Assist in the management of GHC-led roundtables, including meeting coordination, listserv management, and notetaking;
Track relevant global health policies and legislative initiatives, such as Dear Colleague letters;
Assist in the coordination of (virtual) Hill visit scheduling;
Listen to congressional hearings and coalition meetings as assigned, taking notes on relevant policy discussions;
Assist with logistics and organizational functions of GHC’s delegation to the World Health Assembly, and other duties as needed;
Prepare briefing materials, correspondence, and mailings;
Monitor advocacy@globalhealth.org inbox
Contribute to the research and writing of  advocacy documents, fact sheets, and newsletters on relevant global health policy issues;
Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Interest in U.s legislative process and/or global health policy
Ability to work productively in groups/coalitions;
Ability to multitask and complete tasks within the assigned time frame;
Ability to take initiative and work independently;
Comfortable working in a virtual environment;
Proficiency in Microsoft applications;
Must have a personal laptop computer and Internet access;
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Experience/Education:

In process of receiving a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in political science, public policy, health, or another relevant area of study;
Basic knowledge of the legislative process and interest in advancing responsible global health public policy.
