Norfolk, Virginia, Overview: Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunity for a MLT/MT specializing in Flow Cytometry for our office in Newport News. ***Please take this quick survey once you’ve submitted your resume to complete the application process: MLT/MT PI Survey Link Responsibilities: Calibrates, operates and maintains all reagents, instrumentation and equipment relative to flow Cytometry. Follows all Quality Control, Quality Assurance and preventative maintenance requirements for all related instrumentation for flow Cytometry procedure as identified in the Laboratory Procedure Manual. Evaluates the validity of laboratory patient data according to the principles of accuracy, precision methodology and Quality Control comparison data. Records any corrective action associated with out-of-range quality control data. Performs all Proficiency/Blind split analysis required by CLIA. Records and reports results accurately and in a timely manner Reports problems concerning individual cases, tests, equipment and supplies to laboratory supervisor to ensure timely resolution. Records required information in laboratory log books, specimen accession sheets, work flow drafts, etc. , to ensure quality assurance of specimens. Monitors equipment; reports any malfunctions to supervisor and resolves malfunctions prior to testing and reporting patient results May be required to perform specialized testing to ensure quality control.
Learns new technology and applies it to laboratory procedures. Performs all aspects of laboratory procedures following safety guidelines and adhering to protocols in the Virginia Oncology Associates laboratory manual. Performs other related duties as assigned. Monitors problem cases to ensure a timely resolution. May organize cases to be analyzed by laboratory personnel if directed to do so by a lead or supervisor. May participate in special projects requiring data collection, analysis and presentation of conclusions Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or equivalent field required. Minimum of 4 years experience in a Clinical Laboratory required. Experience in flow cytometry with emphasis on leukemia/lymphoma phenotyping required; 6-8 years color flow immunophenotyping preferred; Beckman-Coulter FC500 experience a plus. Color vision-ability to distinguish and identify different colors required. AMT, ASCP or equivalent certification preferred.
