Fairbanks, Alaska, Overview This position promotes optimal care of the surgical patient within the guidelines set forth by the state of practice and the American College of Surgeons (ACS) through clinical program, administrative functions, and public education. Enhances the surgical program through activities with the Surgeon Champion, Quality Improvement, and other additional ancillary departments. Shift Available: Monday-Friday Weekends and Holidays off *You must have minimum 3 years of OR experience Responsibilities Performs quality review of surgical patient care in accordance with annual performance improvement plan including variance tracking, system-wide monitors, and practice standard monitors. Performs retrospective case review such as surgical, death, and other monitors unable to be conducted on a concurrent basis, using ACS NSQIP guidelines. Intervenes with physicians, managers, and/or staff when quality concerns are identified to improve the quality of care provided to the patient. Facilitates appropriate medical staff department and Quality Improvement meetings as needed.
Communicates directly with guidance of the ACS NSQIP Surgeon Champion and the department chair and physician peer reviewers concerning the chart review process. Abstracts surgical cases for ACS NSQIP program, maintains accurate surgical NSQIP follow up data in accordance with ACS NSQIP guidelines. Participates in the preparation for site survey and maintenance of state and ACS NSQIP standards of care. Maintains Certified as ACS Surgical Clinical Reviewer. Collects data to maintain the ACS NSQIP registry with accurate and valid data. Performs accurate ICD-10 and CPT ICD10 coding of surgical patient procedures. May perform e-coding, validation of data entry and timely export to the NSQIP registry to the standards required. Evaluates surgical patient care and care guidelines through concurrent monitoring. Assists in identification of systems and patient quality improvement issues and potential solutions. Assists with informational needs of referral facilities and in-house staff, including education programs, patient follow-up and quality performance programs as directed.
Provides specialty focused nursing consultation on complex patient cases. Evaluates patient needs and makes recommendations for treatment, implements interventions, and evaluates outcomes. Serves as a specialized clinical resource to patients, families and staff to advance the quality of care. Stays current on developments within area of specialty and integrates findings into practice, policies, and procedures. Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Qualifications Current RN Licensure in state of practice. American College of Surgeons (ACS) Surgical Clinical Reviewer certification required. At least three years recent clinical experience in a surgical setting. Able to use standard office software (spreadsheets, presentations, word processing).
Strong interpersonal relations skills. BLS certification is required. May require ACLS, PALS, or additional certification and/or continuing education based on area of practice. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS BSN or MSN preferred. Experience with AIS/ISS and ICD-10 coding preferred. Surgical data abstraction preferred. Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
