Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois, Overview Collaborates with various departments to provide expertise in statistical analysis and data modeling, specifically focused on healthcare quality and safety data. Supports research and other project teams to identify and define key performance indicators, design statistical models, and perform advanced analyses to uncover trends and patterns in healthcare data. Responsibilities also include validating models, developing data collection strategies, and providing expert guidance in interpreting and communicating statistical findings to stakeholders. Guides and reviews the statistical methods and deliverables for the data analysts and data scientists within the research and quality measurement departments. Uses data visualization programs, tools, and techniques to generate dashboards, reports, and presentations that aid in data storytelling, understanding, and interpretation of trends and patterns of business importance. Responsibilities Design and perform advanced statistical analyses, such as regression models, time series analysis, survival analysis, and data clustering, to identify trends, patterns, and correlations in healthcare data. Support internal research and project teams to provide statistical analysis plans needed for research proposals and manuscript development of peer-reviewed research publications. (40%) Design and develop statistical models and methodologies for analyzing healthcare organization data to support quality measure development, quality measure pilot testing and analysis of quality measure data to support accreditation and certification operations. Includes outlier analysis and development of novel methods to identify performance patterns among healthcare organizations, and development/maintenance of risk-adjustment models to process healthcare organization outcome performance measures. (25%) Evaluate and validate statistical models and analytical methods to ensure the reliability and robustness of results needed to support national measure endorsement and re-endorsement.

(5%) Provide expert guidance and support to stakeholders in interpreting and communicating statistical findings, including the presentation of results to executive leadership and external stakeholders. (10%) Collaborate with data scientists and IT professionals to develop data management systems and tools for efficient data collection, storage, and retrieval. Mentor and provide guidance to data scientists and analysts, fostering their professional growth and development. (10%) Stay updated with the latest advancements in statistical methodologies, healthcare regulations, and quality improvement initiatives, and integrate them into the organization’s practices and processes. (5%) Regularly communicate with project leaders. In collaboration with the project teams, maintain project work plans, maintain documentation of statistical support, and contribute to organization and upkeep of project files. (5%) Qualifications The level of knowledge equivalent to that ordinarily acquired through the completion of doctoral degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or a related field. 7-10 years’ experience working as a Statistician or Data Scientist in the healthcare industry, with a focus on quality improvement, patient safety, or healthcare outcomes. Strong expertise in statistical analysis techniques and methodologies, including regression models, time series analysis, survival analysis, and data clustering. Advanced technical or statistical experience in all phases of relational database development and quality assurance (e.

g. , requirements, analysis, design, testing, implementation, documentation, maintenance). Proficiency in statistical software, such as R or Python, for data manipulation, modeling, and visualization. Experience with relational databases, reporting/query tools, and software packages that The Joint Commission utilizes (e. g. , MS Azure, MS Excel, MS Access, Power BI etc. ). Displays a willingness to keep current on database technology, programming languages, and best practices. Solid understanding of healthcare quality and safety measures, regulations, and reporting requirements, such as those established by regulatory agencies and accreditation bodies is preferred. Publication record in peer-reviewed journals and experience presenting at conferences or industry events is desirable.

Effective written and oral communication skills, especially in communicating business and technical information. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights and recommendations. Ability to provide data tables and graphics that significantly enhance the interpretation of analysis results . Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to professionally interact with external stakeholders and project partners, especially in communicating technical or statistical information and specifications. Proven ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams and manage multiple projects with competing priorities. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively present statistical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences. Flexibility to accommodate shifting priorities and accommodate ad hoc analyses. Highly independent, requiring minimal supervision. Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of data accuracy and integrity. Demonstrates a results-orientation, determination, ownership of responsibility, reliability, and accountability.

Experience mentoring and training junior staff including data scientists and analysts.
