Each year, Children’s provides care through nearly 13,000 inpatient visits and more than 200,000 emergency room and other outpatient visits. An independent, not-for-profit health care provider, Children’s has 319 staffed hospital beds and services available in all major pediatric specialties: emergency care; newborn and pediatric intensive care; outpatient and inpatient surgery; diagnostic services, including radiology and laboratory; and special programs in the areas of respiratory, cardiology, cancer, premature birth, adolescent development, child abuse, and epilepsy. Position Summary The Security Lead position is responsible for the oversight of maintaining a safe and secure Children’s campus. The Security Lead will oversee security staff (officers and dispatchers), including assigning work, coaching, and recommending discipline. The Security Lead’s core role is to promote a safe environment for patients, visitors and hospital employees.

Qualifications :
* Must possess excellent multi-tasking abilities.
* Must be capable of prioritizing tasks and setting priorities in a fast paced, multi-faceted environment.
* Excellent verbal, writing and computer skills required.
* Must be able to prepare verbal and written reports.
* Must complete and pass use of force training within 30 days of hire.
* Must complete and pass Basic Life Support (BLS) and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training within 90 days of hire.
* Must be able to wear respiratory protection (N-95 respirator, full face respirator and PAPR), be fit tested, and able to pass respirator physical.
* Must possess a valid driver’s license (must meet minimum criteria of Children’s Minnesota Fleet Safety Management policy).
* Must be able to successfully pass background checks of the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) and Department of Human Services (DHS). Education:
* High school diploma or equivalent required.


* Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Business, Psychology or Sociology preferred. Experience:
* Prior experience in a security or public safety field preferred.
* Prior supervisory experience preferred.
* Prior experience responding and intervening in emergency situations such as crisis de-escalation, intervention, detainment of suspects, reporting and investigating incidents, and enforcing organizational policy preferred.
* Emergency Operations Center experience preferred.
* Healthcare knowledge/experience preferred. License/Certification Preferences:
* POST skills completed, International Association of Hospital Safety and Security (Basic), First Responder, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or OSHA first responder certifications preferred.
* Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Certified Forensic Interviewer (CFI), Physical Security Professional (PSP), Professional Certified Investigator (PCI), a plus. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
* Ability to lead staff, including assigning work and recommending discipline.
* Ability to provide positive direction and motivate performance.


* Knowledge of leadership practices and procedures.
* Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with people at various social levels and across diverse cultures.
* Strong customer service and results orientation.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills a must.
* Knowledge of security operations and procedures preferred.
* Must be able to use or learn computer programs for dispatching officers, report writing, information database look ups, email, access control and video monitoring systems.
* Ability to operate, or learn to use, two way radios, telephone, copier, fax and pager notification systems.
* Ability to work independently and as a team.
* Ability to communicate effectively with others both orally and in writing.
* Ability to retain knowledge, information, and directions on an ongoing basis and communicate effectively with others.


* Ability to comprehend numerous policies, procedures, concepts and to be able to make decisions using discretion and interpretive judgment based on general and specific policies.
* Ability to maintain accurate records.
* Must be customer service oriented.
* Knowledge of verbal and physical de-escalation, use of force continuum and arrest laws preferred
* Ability to walk and climb stairs.
* Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
* Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions.
* Ability to see and hear accurately in both day and nighttime conditions.
* Skill in operating portable radio devices.
* Ability to detect irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards and emergency situations.
* Effectively contacts and interacts with emergency responders, such as police, fire, and/or ambulance personnel as required.


* Ability to restrain or subdue an individual.
* Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
