Morristown/NJ/USA, Overview Atlantic Health System is seeking a full-time Supervisor, Biomedical Equipment Tech for the Engineering department at Morristown Medical Center to work 8AM – 4PM. Fully experienced with an advanced skill set or knowledge in healthcare technology; works with minimal supervision; capable of supervising and training to all levels of BMET technicians and interns. Act as a department representative when required. Capable of overseeing the daily service delivery and coordination of all aspects of customer service. Reports department performance to Manager weekly and provide corrective action if required. Assures department is sufficiently staffed to provide daily operations. Communicates with staff all necessary information via staff meetings and other appropriate means. Must have ability to prioritize department workload, communicate effectively and delegate assignments. Responsibilities Possesses knowledge and skills related to medical equipment systems and devices. Possesses knowledge of medical PCs, peripherals, medical network hardware and clinical network applications.
Review vendor contracts to assist Manager in evaluating value, accuracy, and effectiveness. Analyze equipment maintenance history reports to assist the Manager in making in making medical equipment replacement recommendations to the Director. Participate as an advisor in pre-purchase planning and evaluation for medical equipment acquisition. Review patient care equipment incident reports and recommend corrective action to Manager. Develop and assign written inspection and preventive maintenance procedures for medical equipment listed in the inventory for approval by Manager. Assure the completion of preventive maintenance inspections to meet regulatory standards. Significant working knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology with emphasis in clinical application and troubleshooting. Possesses the ability to follow manufacturer’s procedures for preventive maintenance inspection, scheduled maintenance, electrical safety inspections, and operation verification procedures on medical equipment; including but not limited to all non-nigh risk and high-risk medical equipment. Repair, install, and calibrate complex medical equipment. Exhibits understanding and can demonstrate use of all hand tools and test equipment required for maintenance; not limited to: digital multimeter, electrical safety analyzer, pressure measuring gauges, ESU analyzer, defibrillator tester, patient simulator and infusion pump tester.
Inform Manager of the status of repairs, scheduled inspections, unusual medical equipment situations, and any customer concerns. Work with, direct, and document the activities of subcontractors, vendors, and outside service technicians to ensure proper service delivery and vendor documentation. Develop and maintains biomedical expertise through ongoing training and education. Assist with special projects as required. Specific Skills & Experience: Exhibits a detailed understanding and can fully communicate the use of devices supported. Can provide support of non-high risk and high-risk medical equipment for direct patient care. Possesses understanding of the daily operations of the facilities they support. Maintain 24-hour on-call emergency schedules. Public Safety & Regulatory Requirements Assists Manager with the implementation of Medical Equipment Management Plan (MEMP), The Joint Commission, NFPA and other regulatory agencies’ standards. Assists Manager with maintaining documentation, policies & procedures, and that staff assessment tools are current an updated.
Evaluates accuracy and integrity of the equipment database to include the inventory, preventive maintenance schedules, nomenclature, and service history. Assures service completed and documentation submitted is accurate, complete, and timely. Can review all BMET technician documentation for the same. Customer Support: Can successfully resolve complex customer service issues, complaints, and escalated issues from all BMET technicians. Performs and coordinates special assignments to accommodate medical equipment installations and department inspections without interrupting clinical operations. Interacts with customers in a timely manner. Demonstrates the ability to elicit information from customers as needed for troubleshooting and general support. Coordinates available resources to support customer requests. Develop and maintain positive relationships with department representatives and managers. Equipment Expertise: Possesses knowledge of clinical equipment systems.
Other: Possesses knowledge of project management terms and methods Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Science or Technology (BMET/EET) or Associate degree or military trained (BMET) Biomedical Equipment Technician with extensive, demonstrable and documented experience in the field will be considered. Certifications: AAMI (CBET) Certification as a Biomedical Equipment Technician. (Preferred).
