Job Description

The Program Advisor performs various duties
to comprehensively support the Graduate Programs in Clinical Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, and Social Work. This
position collaborates with Graduate Program Directors and faculty, the Registrar’s Office, and other University offices. This position also
will partner with community-academic liaisons to ensure the smooth functioning of the academic advising and student support systems for
graduate programs. This role is a 12-month position that provides academic advising, student services support, and program assistance for
the Phylis Lan Lin School of Social Work and Counseling, and the School of Psychology.

Responsibilities-Program Advisor

  • Collaborates with faculty and students to develop each student’s course schedule each semester and registers students for
    their classes
  • Performs graduation audits and other academic progression support activities for students
  • Communicates
    regularly with students to keep them apprised of changes in course schedules, curriculum requirements, financial aid and scholarship
    requirements and opportunities, and other program-related issues
  • Assists in monitoring student progress relative to grade
    requirements in prerequisite and curriculum courses and notifies students of any changes in their program plan and progression related to
    these issues
  • Assists with transferring course credit from other universities in consultation with the Program
    Directors
  • Organize alumni emails after each graduation term
  • Facilitate social media accounts for the
    College
  • Occasionally work with the undergraduate programs in minimum capacities (UG Psych — assigning advisors and pulling
    reports) (UG Psych and BSW — assist in facilitating schedule changes when schedules are due to the Registrar) (work with Office of
    Admissions to schedule UG visits to help with recruitment)
  •  Report generation for accreditation and other purposes as
    needed; 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications- Program Advisor

  • A bachelor’s degree and
    previous experience in a support position in a college environment.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, use of the
    Internet, email and email attachments, ability to download and attach files.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including public
    speaking and in-depth telephone conferencing and counseling.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with
    diverse customers (i.e., students, faculty, staff, community partners, and other University departments).
  • Proficiency or ability to
    learn database management, BANNER, and other software used in the University environment.
  • Proficiency or ability to learn basic Web
    content management skills.
  • Effectively utilize technology including student data management systems and online learning
    platforms
