    Job Summary

    The Academic Advisor II will ensure student success through academic advising and assist the college with other recruitment and retention activities.

    Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

    • Advise students individually and in groups to include prospective students, transfer students, freshman, sophomore, juniors, and seniors seeking an undergraduate degree offered by the College of Arts and Sciences.
    • Participate in and aid coordination of college activities with Director, Department Chairs, Associate Dean, Dean, and other areas and individuals on campus.
    • Aid in organization and implementation of recruitment and retention functions for the college.
    • Work with students on probation, suspension, and financial aid students that have signed timely graduation contracts.
    • Update and maintain undergraduate student electronic data files.
    • Utilize software to keep accurate counts on students in the College of Arts and Sciences. Use this information to complete semester reports.
    • Participate in and aid coordination of college activities with Director, Department Chairs, Associate Dean, Dean, and other areas and individuals on campus.
    • Aid in organization and implementation of recruitment and retention functions for the college.
    • Generate semester reports related to enrollment numbers, retention numbers, and other student related matters.
    • Implement retention plans.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Required Education/Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree.
    • Two (2) years of experience in academic advising or related field.

    • Excellent customer service skills.
    • Able to communicate information pertaining to university academic policies to students in a relatable manner.
    • Strong organizational skills.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in using standard computer software and databases including Microsoft office, Teams, and student records systems (Peoplesoft, banner, EAB products, etc).

    Other Information

    • May require some travel to workshops.
    • Will require occasional availability after hours and on weekends during advising periods, orientation, and previews.

    Additional Information

    The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
