Job Summary/Basic Function
The Coordinator of Undergraduate Education and Practice Placements manages student practice placements, serves as the primary point of contact for undergraduate public health programs, and manages several graduate public health certificate programs. The coordinator works with over 50 agencies related to field placements and partnership certificates. The successful candidate works with faculty and staff to create exceptional coordinated experiences for students and partners.
Minimum Qualifications
- A Master’s degree and 3 years of related work experience or a bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related work experience.
- A work history that demonstrates initiative and the ability to manage multiple projects with an attention to detail, organization, customer service, and skill development.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
- The ability to manage databases and develop reporting systems that track and summarize the complexities of partnerships and student experiences.
- Technical writing skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Academic advising or experience working with students and faculty.
Experience with SalesForce, Banner, and Microsoft Access databases.
Essential Functions and percent of time
Manage Public Health Practice Placements – 35%
The Council on Education for Public Health accreditation criteria requires every MPH student to complete an applied practice experience and create an individualized portfolio that demonstrates competency attainment. This responsibility includes:
* Meet with the student to explore career interests, suggest placements, and assist in the development of individualized learning objectives.
* Monitor monthly progress reports, serve as a point of contact with the organization, monitor progress on student portfolios, and collect/aggregate the student and agency post-experience survey.
* Maintain the practice placement database, including fieldwork sites, site preceptors, and student products, in compliance with Council on Education for Public Health requirements and program goals.
* Survey and monitor student and organization satisfaction with the placement and resolve any conflict as needed.
* Recruit new field sites and experiential learning to meet the growing needs of students.
* Coordinate and maintains the record for educational affiliation agreements.
* Prepare written reports, maintains and update program websites, and assist with workforce development activities.
Coordinate Undergraduate Public Health Degree Programs – 35%
The PPHS department is the university leader for academic public health programs and offers the BA and BS degree in partnership with the College of Liberal Arts and College of Science and Mathematics. The coordinator is central to the successful execution of this interdisciplinary experience. This responsibility includes:
* Serve as the primary point of contact for prospective and current undergraduate students and help students successfully navigate the various partnership opportunities within the university.
* Coordinate collaborative administrative efforts with faculty and staff from other colleges, including communications and advisory meetings.
* Participate in central advising sessions with students as the public health content expert and assist students in developing career goals and interdisciplinary programs of study.
* Organize and participate in university recruitment and retention efforts, including but not limited to, first-year and transfer orientations, open houses, April craze, Fall Fest, Convocation, and Commencement.
* In consultation with the appropriate committees, evaluate transfer credits for public health courses required by the degree program.
* Assist with graduate program orientation, info sessions, and student events as needed.
* Work with the Director of Workforce Development and Community Engagement to create and implement cohort and capstone experiences for undergraduate students.
* Recommend communications and marketing plans to support student recruitment, enrollment, and retention for the Public Health degree programs.
Essential Functions and percent of time (cont’d)
Coordinate Graduate Certificate Program – 25%
The PPHS department offers five graduate certificate programs (aerospace medicine; emergency public health; epidemiology; public health leadership; and health care management) and coordinates the health care management concentration of the MBA program. This responsibility includes:
* Field student inquiries, monitor applications and coordinate documentation for each certificate program directors’ approval, and enter admissions’ decisions,
* Assist students with a program of study plan and course registration, monitor progress toward certificate completion, coordinate student records with the Graduate School, and order and deliver the certificates of competition.
* Serve as a primary liaison between the department and certificate program partners, including the United States Air Force, Department of Medical Education, and the Raj Soin College of Business.
* Prepare written reports, assist in webpage updates and other communications material development, and serves on the department curriculum committee.
