Job Description

­­­­­­­The School of Architecture at the University of Virginia is seeking an Academic Advisor to provide critical administrative support to the School of Architecture’s Advising teams. As a member of the School of Architecture, Academic Advisor is integral to the school’s success of enrolling an academically strong and diverse undergraduate and graduate student body while meeting the overall enrollment goals for the School of Architecture.

Reporting directly to the Director of Advising and Academic Support, the Academic Advisor is a key contributor to the positive student experience, provides recommendations to support the school’s JEDI strategic goals of increasing student representation from underrepresented and underserved populations, and supports equitable access to information and resources to ensure students’ success. Working with a robust Student Services team.

What you will do:
Administrative support

  • Serve as the shared point of contact for current students, in-person, by phone, and via email. Help advise these students on the scope of educational opportunities and support resources available at the School of Architecture.
  • With guidance from the Director of Advising and Academic Support will assist with advising students on curriculum pathways.
  • Serve as the primary contact for all external transfer students.
  • Lead the School of Architecture’s implementation and ongoing maintenance of Signal Vine, a text messaging service to communicate with prospective and current students.
  • Identify and communicate students’ needs, concerns, and requests to the Director of Advising and Academic Support, Associate Dean of Academics, Associate Dean of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and Assistant Dean of Student Affairs.
  • Develop new and innovative processes to make the School of Architecture more impactful in creating a positive experience for prospective and current students.

Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Accurately collect, compile, and report data on student engagement interactions.
  • Prepare seasonal and annual reports to inform the Director of Advising and Academic Support and Director of Admission on successes, opportunities, and challenges to implementing positive student engagement experiences.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of related experience. Significant relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Strong organization and planning skills with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple time-sensitive priorities and diverse constituents.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Evidence of developing and implementing creative problem-solving solutions and strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • The ability to use independent judgement to analyze, solve problems, manage information, and impart confidential information.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in a student-focused unit in higher education.
  • Experience using Office 365, SIS, and UBI.

Anticipated hiring range : $ 50,000-58,000
