The Ryan College of Business Office of Undergraduate Programs Office is staffed with professional Academic Advisors and Academic Counselors responsible for evaluating transfer credit and course planning. They assist students with the understanding of university policies and regulations, reach their academic goals, and support student success.

Position Overview

The Senior Academic Advisor is part of a team working with all MBA and MS students in the G. Brint Ryan College of Business, Graduate Programs Office. The team member will advise current students and prospective applicants on degree requirements and admission to the MBA/MS.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and four years of experience in student affairs, student services, counseling, or professional academic advising.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong presentation, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Advanced academic advising expertise.
  • Ability to integrate and analyze information and develop reports.
  • Ability to use a variety of complex computer applications.
  • Ability to effectively manage projects and work teams.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations verbally and in writing with internal and external groups in a variety of settings.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Considerable knowledge of University policies and procedures related to functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate).

Preferred Qualifications

MBA/MA/MS

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 8AM to 5PM with occasional evening or weekends. Some remote work may be possible with supervisor and departmental approval.

Driving University Vehicle: No

Job Duties

Evaluation of student credentials to assess for background course deficiencies

Participate in the MBA/MS admission process and must have expert level knowledge of all aspects of the admission decision process, including data entry of decision.

Will work with U Achieve, UNT’s Student information System (EIS), both student records and admission processing system.

The position will support recruiting, orientation, held online and in person through the year.

The Senior Academic Advisor should anticipate contributing to conversations on process improvement and concerns surrounding graduate education and feel empowered to act on solutions independently and as a team. And other job duties as related to the position.
