Department: 120101 – College of Design

Location: Raleigh, NC

Essential Job Duties:
Career Advising and Opportunity Development:

  • Coordinates a career expo and/or other recruiting/career-related events (Fall Practitioners Convocation, Spring Interview Days, Classroom Presentations)
  • Coordinate internship opportunities
  • Serve as a liaison between employers and students regarding job opportunities
  • Directs operational and strategic aspects of the Career services program. Creating guidelines, protocols, and programs as the unit expert.
  • Provide individual career counseling and coaching to College of Design students
  • Provide employment readiness programs (resume writing, interview skills, portfolio development, etc.)
  • Maintain and update the career resources website
  • Facilitate student career planning workshops (DesignLife Career series)
  • Conduct advising sessions for new faculty and students
  • Maintain an internal dashboard of career services activities
  • Generate annual reports for the university (e.g. documenting internships, externships, and out-of-state instruction)

Academic Advising Support:

  • Coordinate advising activities and with faculty academic advisors to implement various activities
  • Serve as liaison to NC State Undergraduate Career Advising Center
  • Review and monitor curriculum and catalog information to ensure accuracy
  • Collaborate with academic unit heads in monitoring ADA (Academic Degree Audits)
  • Assess effectiveness through surveys and/or chat sessions with students and employers
  • Serve on College and University Committees that pertain to Undergraduate Advising
  • Train and supervise Graduate Intern

Other Work/Responsibilities:

  • Engages in college events and programs (New Student Orientation, graduate programs, ceremonies, etc.) to develop relationships with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Experience/Education:
Require post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor’s degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong communication skills: oral, written, and presentation
  • Strong interpersonal, counseling, and customer service skills
  • Ability to establish collaborative relationships with campus and community partners.
  • Ability to effectively juggle large student loads and multiple responsibilities
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and adapt to changing demands and priorities
  • Computer proficiency, including MS Office and Google Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in education, Counseling/School Counseling, or another related field and must have at least two years of higher education career/academic advising and/or counseling experience.
  • Relevant experience in a college or university setting.
  • Prefer knowledge of NC State University or advising practices in a comparable accredited Design college/school.
  • Knowledge of career advising practices.
  • Experience creating professional development opportunities
