Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Mentor and advise first-year students on the transition to college, academic choices,
and managing responsibilities. This position will also advise and mentor upperclassmen on Suspension Warning, Probation and in the Restart
Program.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EDUCATION REQUIRED:
A Master’s degree in higher education
administration, psychology, counseling, or related area, is preferred. The ideal candidate will have experience working with college
students and teaching in the college environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Academically advises
approximately 100-115 first-year students and up to 20 undeclared sophomores.
Meets with advisees on a regular basis to monitor
success in college.
Identifies and facilitates resolution of student academic and personal issues.
Works with probationary
students in Restart, Probation and ASW Program as needed by creating an academic plan and meeting with students regularly.
Meets with
other members of a student intervention taskforce as well as a retention committee on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.
Contracted to
teach two First-Year Student Professional Development Seminar classes per fall term. There is an opportunity to teach 2-3 additional
sections of First or Second Year PDS per fall/spring term with additional compensation.
Participates in orientation programs,
registration, advising day, fall and spring openings, and open houses.
Monitor Advising Services email account and promote the
department and academic related events on social media.
Utilizes Colleague, the college’s current database management software,
as well as Student Planning and TracCloud to support student plans and academic success.
Works closely with various campus
departments including Academic Center for Excellence and Support, Admissions, Athletics, Student Financial Services, Career &
Professional Development Center, Information Technology, Learning Services, Registrar’s Office, Student Services, Institute for
Women’s Leadership, Center for Diversity Equity & Inclusion, and faculty to better assist students.
