Department Summary
The Pride Alliance is UNT’s gender and sexuality resource office on campus and a safe and welcoming space for all. We promote the inclusion and equity of all genders and sexualities and create space for students to explore and affirm their identities and build community.
Position Overview
The Pride Alliance seeks an Assistant Director to join our team. Primary responsibilities include developing and implementing educational and community-building programming and gender and sexuality focused trainings, supervising all student staff, and serving as a resource for students with regards to identity and personal development, mental health, community-building, and academic success.
Minimum Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in a Social Work, Women’s and Gender Studies, LGBTQ Studies, or Related Field and 4 years of LGBTQ campus/non-profit/volunteer work, Student Services, Student Affairs, Counseling, Advising, or Related Experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training
and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, University policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Knowledge of student development theory, techniques, and research associated with ensuring the success of diverse student populations.
- Knowledge of student organization structures, leadership development design, and student development theories.
- Skill in public speaking and delivering presentations to individuals and groups.
- Skill in service orientation by actively looking for ways to help people.
- Skill in managing one’s own time and the time of others.
- Encouraging and building mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members.
- Skill in giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
- Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision.
- Ability to provide support for student development with a demonstrable concern for students.
- Ability to engage students and to create and enhance their connection to the institution and each other.
- Ability to work collaboratively and building strategic relations with colleagues, coworkers, constituents and volunteers.
- Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Student Affairs/HigherEd, Counseling, Social Work, Women’s and Gender Studies, LGBTQ Studies, or Related Field.
- 1-3 years post-graduate experience within Higher Education.
- Experience in student supervision, training facilitation, and event planning from conception to implementation.
- Thorough knowledge of the intersections of multiple systems of oppression, including but not limited to racism, heterosexism, cissexism, ableism, classism, etc.
- Thorough knowledge of/ability to quickly learn: Knowledge of UNT policies and federal laws relevant to the programs and services provided by the Pride Alliance and University policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of state and nationwide trends regarding enrollment, attrition, retention, and graduation rates of queer and trans students
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8AM-5PM

Job Duties
Develop and maintain information, reference, and resource materials on gender and sexuality topics for current and prospective students, faculty, and staff.
Assist in the development and facilitation of training and presentations on Gender and Sexuality, Identity Development, Power, Privilege, and Oppression, and Social Justice.
Coordinate educational and awareness-raising programs and initiatives from design to implementation for the campus community.
Work closely with student organizations, academic departments, other campus units, and DFW area organizations to create collaborative programming.
Assist queer and trans students in fostering a strong sense of self, strengthening their communities, and building alliances with other departments and campus entities.
Provide leadership training and development for designated students and student organizations.
Provide drop-in assistance for students and other constituents in the Pride Alliance.
Develop and maintain assessment tools and data relative to the work and goals of the position that measure the impact of programs and services.
Supervision of Student Assistants: Provide direction and supervise assigned student employees in programming and office support. Assist in training of student staff and evaluations of returning student staff. Assign and monitor student work hours and production. Conduct student assistant staff meetings and 1:1 meetings.
