Job Description

Saint Michael’s College invites applications for a dynamic leader to become the inaugural Director of the Center for Equity and
Justice (CEJ). The Center’s purpose is to foster a collaborative hub that bridges the academic and co-academic areas related to equity
and justice. The Director leads the Center in curating, providing, and sharing resources and programming to build faculty and academic staff
capacities for equity and justice in curriculum, teaching, and advising practices. The Center supports equity- and justice-focused
experiential learning opportunities for students and works with various Centers and offices across campus to cultivate collaborative and
strategic partnerships. The Center for Equity and Justice will focus on multiple aspects of equity and justice in an intersectional way,
with special prominence given to racial equity and justice, furthering the College’s overall goal of robust diversity and inclusion.
The creation of this center for Equity and Justice is part of the College’s comprehensive Strategic Plan, Forward With Purpose.

As the inaugural leader of
the Center for Equity and Justice, the Director will focus on the following areas in their first year to establish the Center’s
presence, mission, goals, and strategic direction:

  • Understands the Saint Michael’s College (SMC)
    landscape and works towards making the Center a hub for academic and co-curricular equity and justice work
  • Makes connections with
    SMC’s other academic centers (Center for Global Engagement and Center for Environment) and with a range of other departments,
    programs, and offices on campus, including the Purposeful Learning Program and the Center for Student Diversity, Empowerment, and Community
    (DEC)
  • Convenes the Center for Equity and Justice Steering Committee
  • Develops a strategic plan for the Center aligned with
    the College’s strategic priorities and share this plan with stakeholders across the College
  • Teaches courses (3 per academic
    year) related to the broad areas of equity and justice, consonant with the incumbent’s area of academic expertise; and serves on the
    advisory committee for the Equity Studies program, in which these courses will participate

The incumbent
will hold the rank of an instructor in a department appropriate to the circumstances of the person chosen and, in the role of Center
Director, will report to the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Requirements:

Applicants should have the following:

  • Master’s
    required, Doctorate a plus
  • Teaching experience, with college/university level teaching preferred
  • Organizational/project
    experience
  • Expertise in areas of equity and justice
  • Experience with inclusive curriculum development and pedagogies
  • Experience with building and managing new programs, center operations, and organizational structures
  • Ability to provide
    innovative and collaborative leadership
  • Multilingual competence is desirable
