Job Description:

Budget Title:  Senior Staff Associate (SL-5)

Salary: $69,395 – $75,000

Binghamton University seeks applicants for the
Director of Intercultural Affairs who will provide strategic and innovative leadership to the Multicultural Resource Center (MRC) and the
LGBTQ Center. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the Director of Intercultural Affairs, serves as
a key leader in the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion working collaboratively across divisions to assist the campus community by
developing strategic initiatives related to diversity, equity, and inclusion to support the recruitment, retention, and success of diverse
and underrepresented student populations. The director will be responsible for articulating a strategic vision, identifying key priorities,
along with developing, implementing, and assessing programs and services designed to increase and enhance the educational experiences of our
students, with a particular focus on our underrepresented and historically marginalized students. 

We are seeking a collaborative and
transformative leader, who will work across divisions and with student leaders to create programs and continued dialogues focused on aspects
of diversity, equity, inclusion, engagement, restorative justice, and reconciliation. This new leader will be well informed on and the
application of student development, intersectionality, and racial identities theories, as well as those centered on community building. 

The MRC and the LGBTQ Center is home to and viewed as a resource to many students (and faculty and staff); as each provides opportunities
for collaboration, as well as academic, cultural, and personal support and guidance. Further, the staff (5) in the centers work
collaboratively with student organizations, faculty, staff and alumni to develop creative programs and projects designed to enhance
cross-cultural competency. 

The Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion prides itself on delivering exceptional customer

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a key member of the Assistant Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and
    Inclusion leadership team and works collaboratively with colleagues within and external to the Division, and coordinates the formulation and
    communication of departmental mission, goals, and successes.

  • Manage the day-to-day operations and strategic direction of the
    MRC and Q Center as well as administrative aspects of the Centers including but not limited to: fiscal oversight: including supervision of
    professional staff, graduate assistants, and student employees and leaders.

  • Serves as a critical leader who is committed to
    fostering an inclusive campus culture and works to advance the University’s mission of diversity, equity, and inclusion through actively
    creating, supporting, and carrying out college-wide diversity/cultural programs and initiatives that aim to enhance the recruitment,
    retention, academic success and graduation of underrepresented students.

  • Works collaboratively with various offices to
    promote student success and address the needs of students of color, LGBTQ+ students, first-generation college students, international
    students, and other underrepresented student populations.

  • Develop and monitor communication and outreach efforts with
    students, and social and cultural-identity based clubs and organizations.

  • Manage the Pathways to Inclusive Leadership
    Program.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in
    Higher Education-Administration, Student Affairs, College Student Personnel, or closely related field.
  • Demonstrated progressive,
    successful higher education experience advancing campus-wide or divisional diversity, equity and inclusion programs and
    initiatives.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated success integrating theory with practice in higher education,
    multicultural affairs, identity-based programming, and identity-conscious approaches to student leadership engagement, retention and
    success.
  • Knowledge of best practices related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education.
  • Demonstrated
    experience conducting and facilitating professional workshops that assist the campus community in understanding historically
    underrepresented and marginalized communities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Critical thinking skills
    with the ability to address and effectively manage conflicts.

Preferred:

  • Ph.D. or terminal
    degree.
  • Demonstrated experience in assessment and evaluation of learning outcomes.
  • Ability to demonstrate comprehensive
    knowledge of student development theory, specifically as it applies to students of color, LGBTQ students, and other underrepresented
    populations.
