Job Summary:

Come join our team in the Office of Admissions and Recruitment (OAR) within the Division of Enrollment Management at UW Madison! We are admissions professionals dedicated to recruiting, admitting, and enrolling the next generation of UW Madison undergraduates.

To support this commitment, OAR seeks an Associate Director for Multicultural Outreach and Recruitment who leads, coordinates, and supports institutional efforts to grow undergraduate applications from students with historically underrepresented backgrounds, including students of color, low-income, first-generation, and students from rural backgrounds in Wisconsin and across the country. They lead a team of one Multicultural Recruitment Manager and four Multicultural Recruitment Coordinators. They also serve as a member of OAR’s leadership team, working collaboratively with office and divisional leads to develop and implement sustainable and effective domestic recruitment plans as well as shape the overall direction of the Office of Admissions and Recruitment.

Responsibilities:

Directs strategy and execution of programs and procedures involved in the recruitment, evaluation, and selection of students seeking entrance to the assigned unit in support of achieving institutional, enrollment-related strategic goals.

  • 20% Directs unit admissions strategic planning initiatives and establishes recruitment and enrollment goals
  • 10% Develops unit admissions operating policies and procedures to comply with regulations, institutional policies, and unit objectives
  • 5% Develops the unit admissions budget
  • 25% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • 15% Serves as the school or college liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups providing admission information and representing the admissions interests of the school or college
  • 5% Serves as liaison to central university admission unit to align academic program admission with university enrollment efforts
  • 15% Reviews, evaluates, and makes admission decisions on student applications according to established policies and procedures

Tasks:

  • Supervise a core team of one Multicultural Recruitment Manager and four Multicultural Recruitment Coordinators; identify recruitment markets, schools, and educational programs.
  • Facilitate team member development through setting clear job expectations, supporting growth in application review, recruitment, and yield work, encouraging ongoing professional development, and completing mid-point and annual reviews.
  • Serve as a member of office leadership. Assist in the development of admissions and enrollment objectives, ensuring appropriate use of financial, administrative, and staffing resources, as well as alignment with the strategic plan.
  • Oversee domestic multicultural outreach and recruitment. Support outreach, recruitment, and related processes; develop/train team members from across the office in responsibilities related to enrollment of a dynamic student body.
  • Communicate information about UW-Madison’s academic and co-curricular opportunities to prospective students, their families, school counselors, Community Based Organizations (CBO), and College Transfer Advisors, among others.
  • Identify strategic opportunities for CBO and other partnerships for strategic territories as defined by Senior Associate Director for Recruitment, Outreach and Communications.
  • Conduct webinars, information sessions, and school visits, attend college fairs, and participate in other activities that support enrollment for prospective students and their families, school counselors and others.
  • Collaborate with office communications, marketing, events and recruitment teams to develop communications, publications, events, and recruitment travel.
  • Use data to inform recruitment strategies. Review, edit, and share key recruitment goals with office leadership on a quarterly basis.
  • Manage a budget, including travel and on and off-campus outreach programming.
  • Work closely with designated OAR leads to achieve proper unit alignment around the development of strategic engagement initiatives to achieve admissions and enrollment goals.

Qualifications:

Required:
-At least seven years of progressive experience in college admissions recruitment, outreach, and application review
-Experience attracting, recruiting, admitting, and enrolling undergraduate students from backgrounds underrepresented in higher education
-Experience supervising and developing team members
-Evening and weekend in-person and virtual work as well as limited travel required during peak times

Highly qualified applicants may have the following:
-Experience working with individuals from multicultural backgrounds
-Leadership ability, organizational problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
-In-depth knowledge of secondary institutions, the college admissions process, recruitment cycle, and/or financial aid process
-Experience evaluating applications in a selective admissions process, preferably at a four-year institution
-Project management experience
-Ability to leverage data and technology in support of application generation, file review, benchmarking, decision-making, and making strategic recommendations
-Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, collaboration, and public speaking skills
-Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (i.e., Word, Excel), Customer Relationship Management Systems (i.e., Salesforce), etc.

This position may involve travel. Incumbents must be able to meet the required criteria to become a UW Authorized Driver which allows employees to drive for business purposes. This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location. A minimum of 60% or 3 days per week is to be worked onsite.
