Program Coordinator LGBTQA Resource Center
About the Opportunity
JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Associate Director of the LGBTQA Resource Center, the Program Coordinator will foster greater awareness, knowledge and skills around LGBTQIA2S+ identities, culture and inclusion on campus. The Program Coordinator will implement the Center’s communications and outreach strategies with the Northeastern University student community. The Program Coordinator will further serve as a primary point of contact for inquiries fielded on social media and through the Center’s general email inbox and will be expected to triage incoming messages in order to assure that they receive timely, accurate, and compassionate responses from the Program Coordinator or other staff.
The Program Coordinator will support the planning and execution of Center programs and signature events including but not limited to OUTober Pride and History Month, Queer Prom, Queer Prom, Rainbow Graduation, First Thursday Socials, Coffee Hours, and ReachOUT LGBTQA Career Conference. The Program Coordinator will assist with the development of the Center’s holistic work to meet the needs of a diverse LGBTQIA2S+ population on Northeastern’s campuses as well as a growing network across the globe. The Program Coordinator will mentor and advise student organizations and affinity groups as needed.
This position requires occasional nights and weekends to ensure the success of programs and services.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE :
1) Communications and Outreach –
- Design and manage the production and distribution of all print and digital marketing materials
- Manage and develop content for the Center’s social media channels
- Maintain the Center’s website
- Monitor incoming messages in the Center’s general email inbox, responding or delegating to other staff as appropriate
- In consultation with the Associate Director, proactively develop strategies to increase the Center’s visibility on campus and students’ knowledge of the Center’s programs, events, and services
2) Programming Support –
- Contribute to the design and implementation of the Center’s signature events and programs
- Staff signature events and programs, including evening and weekend programming
- Manage registration for signature events including but not limited to Reach Out career conference, Rainbow Graduation, and Queer Prom
3) General Office Support –
- As needed, assist with coverage of the Center’s front desk
- Assist with inventory and purchasing of Center supplies, including Affirmation Access Project supplies
- Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the student lounge
4) Other duties as assigned –
- Assist with at minimum one of the following: the Affirmation Access Project, direct student resource navigation, the student name and gender marker change process, student employee support, student organization support, and/or campus partnerships.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field with at least 1-2 years of experience working with diverse or marginalized populations or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Specific experience with at least one of the following is required: social media content creation, web design, copywriting, graphic design, or direct student support.
- Strong organizational skills and sensitivity when responding to student inquiries are required. Knowledge of social justice issues and best practices, programming, student activism, and diversity issues is a must.
- Knowledge of international LGBTQIA2S+ climates is preferred. Specific experience in providing direct services to historically underrepresented and LGBTQIA2S+ students in an urban, multicultural, and global environment preferred.
