Position Summary
This position receives direction from the Director of the Latinx Resource Center (LRC) and
provides support to the Center. The LRC Faculty Scholar is responsible for recruiting and supporting students in the Comunidad Leadership
Program; responsible for designing and developing creative, engaging and interactive curriculum that aligns with the goals, objectives, and
learning outcomes for the seminar course; teaches the weekly seminar class; assist with the recruitment, and task designation of Cultural
Mentors (Selected Student Peer Leaders); organizes a weekly staff meeting for the mentors; meets with mentors one-on-one to discuss progress
and challenges; collaborate with the LRC on programming and attends Center Signature Events/Initiatives.
This position will be called
upon as a resource in responding to sensitive equity, crisis, and individualized issues as they relate to Latinx/e multicultural students.
This position may serve as a mentor advisor to students and will work with interns and student assistants to design and deliver programs for
students, and University employees to promote leadership development, equity, multicultural education, social equality, and to address the
intersectionality of identities such as gender, race, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, class, and ability. This position will
promote the LRC and raise awareness of student’s excellence and student concerns through supporting events/programs, written materials
and through representation on campus wide committees.
This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position
anticipated to end on or before June 30, 2024, with the possibility of reappointment. This position is designated as exempt under FLSA and
is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on
operational needs.
Willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, with advance notice.
The individual
hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

The Office of the Vice
President for Student Affairs and Campus Diversity is responsible for the coordination and development of student services and building the
inclusive excellence of SDSU’s staff and faculty at San Diego State University. Departments include, but not limited to, Assistant Deans for
Student Affairs; Career Services; Communications Services; Counseling & Psychological Services; Cultural and Identity Centers; Center
for Educational Opportunity Programs, Outreach and Success; Financial Aid and Scholarships; Military Veterans Program; New Student and

Education and
Experience
A primary consideration in evaluating the education and experience of candidates for a position in these classes
is the degree in which such experience and education provide evidence of the specialized skill and knowledge requirements and the potential
ability essential to successful performance of the assigned functions of the position to be filled.
Minimum qualifications typically
required include possession of an appropriate terminal degree, e.g., either a doctorate in behavioral sciences, counseling, psychology or a
specific related academic field or a California license as a Psychologist, Marriage, Family and Child Counselor or as a Clinical Social
Worker which require a master’s degree in social work with appropriate internship.
Key Qualifications
- A minimum of three years of teaching experience at the collegiate level is preferred.
- Prior experience in higher education
(experience supporting programs for queer and/or trans people of color preferred). - Be collegial, with strong interpersonal skills,
and a track record of working collaboratively with colleagues within and across disciplines. - Ability to develop and deliver
training and education workshops. - Documented experience developing and coordinating programs and events.
- Knowledge,
sensitivity, and understanding of the social, political, personal, and intersectional needs of Latinx/e identifying students - Ability to collaborate and work with other units regarding issues of diversity and community.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to
interact with key senior management, faculty, and administrators regarding issues that impact Latinx/e students. - Ability to
exercise discretion, confidentiality, and excellent judgment in responding to conversional, sensitive, and/or emotional issues and
situations. - Ability to assess, design, implement and evaluate effective programming and policies as related to this position.
- Ability to work well independently and follow through on projects with minimal direction.
- Ability to effectively administer and
coordinate a variety of concurrent and ongoing activities. - Demonstrated ability to apply power, privilege, and inequity concepts to
create safe working environments for minoritized students, faculty, and staff. - Knowledge and experience working with Latin.
- Competency in cross-cultural communication.
- Possesses leadership qualities such as: proactiveness, vision, being a
self-starter, positivity, and creativity. - Previous experience working with community engagement, community building and/or
community organizing. - Willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, with advance notice.
- Knowledge
of using a strengths-based approach, trauma-informed care, and balancing challenge and support. - Possess a strong understanding and
interest of intersectional feminist and queer justice.
Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon
appointment is not expected to exceed $6,190 per month.
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and
qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
