Job Summary:
The Marcus Garvey Cultural Center (MGCC) is part of the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and is one of seven cultural and resource centers that support underrepresented students. The Marcus Garvey Cultural Center (MGCC) staff strives to create a safe, inclusive community for all students, staff, and faculty at the University of Northern Colorado (UNC). As a Center focused on advocacy, the MGCC staff seek to create a space where Black, African, and African American diasporic students, staff & faculty feel connected to UNC and empowered throughout their collegiate experience. The associate director is responsible for coordinating, directing and delegating day-to-day operations; providing leadership, support and direction to professional and student staff, and collaborating with faculty, staff, and community partners to ensure the delivery and effectiveness of high-quality programs and services, and opportunities for involvement and engagement supported and sponsored by the MGCC.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervision and Oversight (45%)
- Provide leadership, supervision and support for the Marcus Garvey Cultural Center.
- Plan, coordinate and provide direct supervision of MGCC programs, events and services, designed to enhance the student experience on campus, transition to campus, and persistence and academic success.
- Develop and conduct educational opportunities for students, staff, faculty, and administration, designed to address and focus on the Black, African and African American diasporic population.
- Recruit, hire, train and supervise two MGCC graduate assistants, and 10-15 undergraduate student staff composed of volunteers, interns and work study students.
- Maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive communication with employees, stakeholders and external agents.
- Research, assess and synthesize information related to Black issues, in order to create both a praxis and a practice of individual and collective support.
- Engage, assistant and advocate for university policy decisions that benefit students.
- Serve in place of director in their absence.
Program Management (35%)
- Coordinate efforts to engage students in opportunities that promote leadership, cross-cultural interactions and sense of belonging.
- Design, implement and execute culturally responsive programming for all UNC students.
- Collaborate with student service and academic areas to enhance collaboration and responsiveness to equity issues on campus and surrounding communities.
- Monitor critical action items, coordinate office services including marketing, purchasing and facilities management.
- Serve on campus committees and participate in the development of programming efforts to enhance student experiences on campus.
- Provide support in the forecasting, allocation, and tracking of fiscal, human and technological resources in alignments with budgetary restrictions.
- Manage day-to-day fiscal affairs of the MGCC; establishing budget allocations and approving and monitoring all program expenditures.
- Initiate and monitor facility operations on a consistent basis in order to maintain quality facilities standards of the MGCC.
- Establish and analyze assessment practices and policies to evaluate black student needs, and current campus environment to enrich the students on-campus experience.
Administrative Duties (20%)
- Disseminate information about available opportunities like scholarships, employment, internships, etc to database of students in collaboration with other campus offices.
- Maintain a professional manner, timely and efficient verbal and written communication with all MGCC stakeholders.
- Oversee day-to-day operations and all employee schedules to ensure coverage during hours of operation.
- Provide guidance and structure for the MGCC within larger campus operations, such as new student orientation, destination/discover UNC events, etc.
- Represent the MGCC at university functions and events.
- Further black student equity.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs Leadership or comparable discipline
- 2 years minimum full time professional experience working in an educational leadership position(s) with a record of increased responsibilities (Note: 2 years graduate assistantship experience is equivalent to one year of professional experience)
- Experience with assessment to evaluate and improve program impact and outcomes.
- Demonstrate understanding of the needs and concerns of Black, African and African American diasporic students at a historically white institution/emerging Hispanic serving institution
- Understanding and knowledge in addressing social justice, equity, diversity and inclusion
- Experience with supervision as well as fiscal management
- Willingness to work irregular and flexible hours
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs Leadership or comparable discipline

Salary and Benefits:
Salary range is $52,000 – $55,000 and is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits available include health, dental, vision, life and long-term disability insurance, as well as a selection of several defined contribution retirement plans. Dependents and spouses of UNC Employees who are employed at 0.5 FTE or above are eligible for undergraduate dependent tuition grants of up to 50%. These tuition grants will cover in-state tuition charges. Further requirements may exist. Other benefits may be available based on position.

Satisfactory completion of a background check, educational check, and authorization to work in the United States is required after a conditional offer of employment has been made. The successful candidate must submit original transcripts within one (1) month of hire.
