Description of Work Unit

Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Education will provide leadership for student learning in the area of intergroup relations and social justice education, partnering with units in OIE, DSA and academic affairs. This role is responsible for recruiting, training, and supervising the peer educators and overall coordination and leadership for the Students Empowering and Engaging in Dialogue (SEED) program. Additionally, the AD has shared leadership for facilitation within the OIE DEI courses.

Opportunities for SEED to have campus-wide involvement and access that increases students understanding of multicultural and cross-cultural issues. This position requires domain knowledge, skills, and abilities pertaining to student development, identity development, intergroup, intercultural, social justice education, and group facilitation. Additionally, this position will partner with the Director of DEI Education to best meet the needs of student training within the division of OIE and to assess impact of the SEED program.

The selected candidate will be student-centered, well-organized and able to work well under pressure with multiple and changing priorities. To be successful in this position, the candidate must have an expressed and demonstrated commitment to diversity and social justice and student development in relation to promoting DEI competency inside and outside of the classroom.

In addition, excellent interpersonal and written communication, organization, ethical and effective decision making, administrative skills, self-motivated and ability to work independently, long term planning and visioning, experience supervising students. This position includes working with diverse groups of students, faculty and staff, such as non- traditionally aged; gender diverse; transgender; religiously diverse; international; persons with disabilities; gay, lesbian, bi-sexual; persons of different racial and ethnic backgrounds; and socio-economic status.

Required Job Qualifications

Master’s degree

Three years’ full-time professional experience working in higher educational setting (NOTE: two years of 20+ hours/week Graduate Assistant experience is equivalent to one year of professional experience);

Direct experience with the development, coordination, planning and facilitation of educational programming/workshops related to diversity, social justice, identity and student development within university setting;

Demonstrated understanding and personal engagement of dynamics of power, privilege, and oppression across multiple identities (ie: race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, class, disability, religion, etc);

Demonstrated experience working collaboratively across identity groups

The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; The department will not sponsor a visa for this position.

Job Duty Category: Program Leadership: Students Empowering and Engaging in Dialogue (SEED) and the summer Diversity Peer Ambassadors (DPA)

Duty/Responsibility

  • Hire, train and supervise up to 10 SEED peer educators
  • Create trainings/workshops for the SEED program
  • Coach and advise peer educators on the development of workshops
  • Develop agenda and lead weekly SEED team meetings, and vision/implement ongoing training and development.
  • Establish campus partnerships (i.e. classrooms, colleges, and student affairs units) to host SEED to facilitate a peer-based workshop
  • Manage and approve SEED
  • Manage SEED programs operating budget ($50,000)
  • Participate in the Division of OIE and other campus-wide projects through committee and special activities
  • Serve as a positive role model for SEED.
  • Exercise professional judgment and specialized knowledge to provide guidance, advice, and support to students, staff, and faculty in a culturally competent manner
  • Attend and participate in all OIE staff meetings and trainings.
  • Demonstrate a professional commitment to diversity, inclusion and social justice.

Duty/Responsibility

  • In partnership with the Director of DEI education, create curriculum and facilitate DEI training for the campus.
  • Create curriculum and instruct courses for peer educators (SEED) or similar leadership opportunities
  • Collaborate with OIE to develop ongoing professional development opportunities for student employees of OIE.
  • Partner with other student facing DEI training units such as Housing and Dining, SLICE, and the LSC to educate student employees.

  • Develop learning and programmatic outcomes for SEED focused on diversity, social

justice and equity

  • Develop learning and programmatic outcomes for the affiliated learning community
  • Facilitate ongoing evaluation of programs, and long term assessment of defined learning outcomes
  • Analyze data and persistence assessments to create reports and make recommendations for program delivery based on student learning and findings
  • Manage the evaluation of curricular and co-curricular programs and activities
  • Conduct formal and informal evaluations based upon professional standards and apply theoretical knowledge to assess measured outcomes
  • Develop and conduct needs assessment to identify and prioritize student needs and learning goals

Duty/Responsibility

  • Oversee all aspects of the implementation and data analysis of the Diversity, Inclusion, and belonging student module
  • Analyze usage data and learning assessments to create reports for campus partners
  • Serve as a campus resource to imbed the DEI module into student learning opportunities across the university
  • Develop and conduct needs assessment to identify student learning goals
