Job Description
The Associate Director for Intercultural Advising and Engagement is responsible
for the successful development, and coordination of the Academic Achievement Program (AAP); a multifaceted program designed to develop and
enhance the academic and leadership potential of Black, Latine, and Indigenous/Native American students in the College of Arts & Science and
greater New York University community. Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Intercultural Advising & Engagement, the Associate Director will
spearhead AAP and other co-curricular initiatives designed to engage students from diverse, underrepresented and underserved backgrounds
while supporting them towards degree completion. These programs (i.e. Gentlemen of Quality (GQ), Women of Excellence, Strength and Tenacity
(WEST), AAP Mentorship, AAP World Changers) will enhance the personal and academic success of students through peer-to- peer mentoring,
alumni connections, faculty/staff relationships, institutional partnerships and extra-curricular opportunities. Additionally, the Associate
Director will serve as an academic advisor on the CAS Advising Team supporting students through the academic life cycle by promoting
academic exploration, and helping them design their academic
plans.
Qualifications:
Required Education:
Master’s Degree Liberal Arts
or Higher Education Administration
Preferred Education:
Master’s Degree
Required
Experience:
5+ years of professional level experience in academic advisement, event planning, student affairs, diversity
initiatives, and/or staff training with a specialization in diversity, inclusion, and the developmental needs of underrepresented
students.
Preferred Experience:
5+ years Experience working with and developing programs for underrepresented
college students at a top university.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Exceptional written and verbal
communication skills and ability to communicate and work with individuals at all levels. Ability to maintain and construct cooperative and
mutually beneficial working relationships with others to further organizational goals. Demonstrated interpersonal, leadership, organization,
and multitasking skills, along with strong data, and presentation skills. Ability to advise a diverse student population of students with a
broad knowledge base.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Working knowledge of theoretical frameworks that
guide work with underrepresented college students- retention theory, student development theory, identity development theory, social and
cultural capital, and align scholarship with practice.
Additional Information:
In compliance
with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $70,000.00 to USD $80,000.00. New York University
considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training,
key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents
base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
