creating an equitable and inclusive campus community where all students, faculty, and staff can thrive and belong. Overseeing and
collaboratively implementing policies and procedures related to campus climate and equitable, inclusive, and restorative practices, the
Office of Diversity and Inclusion uses strategic planning and collaboration, assessment of campus DEI data, and key partnerships with
community stake holders to ensure institutional progress toward goals around Inclusive Community. Relationship building, empathy, and
truth-telling are central to the work of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and essential to the broader mission of SUNY Oswego.
The Office of Diversity and Inclusion at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications to fill a full time Affirmative
Action Officer and Deputy Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer.

Description of Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer, the Affirmative Action
Officer (AAO) and Deputy Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer (DCDIO) is responsible for assuring compliance with federal and state
requirements for Equal Employment Opportunity.
The AAO & DCDIO will proactively review policies and practices to assure that
decisions with respect to every dimension of employment are made without regard to age, color of skin, disability, gender expression and
identity, genetic predisposition, marital status, national origin, race, ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation, veteran’s status,
status as a victim of domestic violence, and all other protected groups and classes under Federal and State Laws and executive orders.
This includes assisting with the preparation of the annual affirmative action program, coordination and investigation of complaints of
alleged discrimination, managing search processes and procedures, annual review and update of policies and procedures related to affirmative
action, and the design and delivery of educational materials and training to the campus community on matters relating to affirmative action
and equal employment opportunity.
Additionally, the AAO & DCDIO will co-chair the Bias Prevention and Response Team and serve as
a resource to faculty and staff who seek information relating to EEO/AA complaint processes and policy implementation.
Compliance
- Monitor developments and changes in federal, state, and local compliance requirements
regarding discrimination and laws that impact the University; inform the President, members of the Senior Administrative team and/or other
University staff, as appropriate. - Coordinate an effective discrimination and compliance-training program, including appropriate
introductory training for new employees as well as ongoing training for all employees and managers.
Affirmative
Action Program
- Responsible for coordination and investigation of complaints of alleged discrimination
- Act
as a representative of the College regarding discrimination complaints filed to state and federal agencies - Co-chair the Bias
Prevention and Response Team - In partnership with Human Resources, oversee faculty and professional searches including maintaining
guidelines, facilitating training search committee members, and certifying candidate pools - Complete the annual affirmative action
report - Partner with members of the campus community to ensure the affirmative action plan is being implemented
- Facilitate
and deliver presentations, workshops and, where appropriate, content for online training, to educate the University community regarding
affirmative action policy and data, search procedures, and other topics
Organizational Climate and
Culture
- Assist in the resolution of employee conflict and concerns via impartial advocacy
- May mediate
workplace disputes for faculty, staff, and students upon request, utilizing restorative practices wherever applicable - Collaborate
with appropriate campus departments and individuals to develop and promote programs that recognize the value of diversity, equity and
inclusivity. - Work with CDIO to provide education and training to expand capacity for use of restorative practices across
campus - Work with HR and other key stakeholders to identify and implement procedures, programs and processes that will support
employee engagement, job satisfaction, productivity, and organizational effectiveness. - Contribute to the overall success of the
University by performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree, preferably in human resources, business administration, public
administration, higher education administration, or a closely related field - Professional experience conducting investigations,
working with affirmative action/equal opportunity programs or in one or more areas of human resources such as recruitment, employee
relations, or training - Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and guidelines related to affirmative action and
civil rights
Preferred Qualifications:
- JD or Doctoral degree
- Experience in higher
education setting - Five or more years related experience
- A proven track record and administrative skills in developing and
implementing affirmative action plans and programs, and the resolution of grievances and complaints - Knowledge of restorative
practices and experience implementing practices to build community and resolve conflict
