Job Description

It is an exciting time to join Oberlin College and Conservatory. We are in the midst of record enrollment
numbers, expansion and growth throughout the Dean of Students Office in several areas, including the Multicultural Resource Commons (MRC).
The MRC is looking to fill the position of Program Coordinator. This is a full-time, continuing twelve-month Administrative and
Professional Staff position, reporting to Senior Assistant Dean and Director of the Multicultural Resource Center and/or the Associate
Director for Gender and Attraction Initiatives. Successful candidates will have experience in event planning and programs that help to
support the following populations: BIPOC, LGBTQ+, First Generation, and Undocumented students.
This position
requires a specialist who possesses the knowledge and experience to help support the cultural, social, and academic needs and concerns of
students specifically and other historically underrepresented students generally. As a member of the MRC staff, this Coordinator
acts as a link between the Assistant Dean/Director along with the Assistant Dean of Inclusion and Belonging, the Associate Director of
Gender and Attraction Initiatives and the BIPOC and GAI Fellows to work with students to provide support, educational
and leadership opportunities along with programming that is aligned with the MRC. Additional responsibilities include, but are not
limited to, the following:
  • Provide leadership identifying and helping to address the academic, social, cultural, and
    political needs of students.
  • Assist students in fostering a strong sense of self and community, and to build coalitions between
    communities.
  • Work as part of a collaborative team.
  • Lead, plan, and implement signature MRC events including and
    not limited to My Name is my Own, Colors of Rhythm, Indigenous Women Speaker Series, Culture Fest, and Lavender and Unity Celebrations.
  • Be highly accessible to individual students, groups of students, and student organizations as an advisor and mentor on academic and
    personal concerns that impact performance and persistence.
  • Take a leadership role in the construction, execution, and support of
    academic, cultural, and social programming on diversity and inclusion for all students.
  • Collaborate on the construction and
    facilitation of social justice education and trainings for students.
  • Advise student organizations related to relevant
    populations/communities including the MRC Council.
  • Develop the construction, design, and distribution
    of MRC publications and resources.
  • Maintain records and provide narrative and regular written progress reports as
    directed, including program assessments/evaluations, budget reports, and program reports.
  • Collaborate with faculty and academic
    programs that support student success as well as to further intellectual discourse on diversity and inclusion for the entire campus.
  • Collaborate with Alumni Affairs to support the building of community between students and alumni.
  • Make appropriate referrals of
    students to other administrative offices.
  • Provide leadership for the creation of connections between the students and community
    members in the Lorain County and Cleveland area.
  • Represent the MRC on selected institution-wide committees.
  • Present and represent the MRC at local and national conferences.
  • Support the MRC through active presence
    and involvement at College-Wide events, including Open Houses and New Student Orientation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the
    Assistant/Director or Associate Director.
  • Working evenings and weekends is occasionally required.

Required
qualifications:

B.A. degree; preference will be given to candidates with degrees in academic fields and programs of study
that examine the experiences of historically underrepresented communities; experience demonstrating strong interpersonal and organizational
skills; knowledge of and track record working on issues and concerns specifically and historically underrepresented communities generally;
experience working on educational programs and trainings; experience working with students in a higher education context, preferably a
liberal arts setting; possess excellent oral and written communication skills; and be collaborative and team oriented.
