Job Description

Position Overview

The Coordinator, Programming & Engagement supports the efforts to engage the campus and
community in meaningful recognition, celebrations, and understanding of diverse communities, perspectives and experiences through
university-wide, large-scale programming and educational initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the
    coordination of campus-wide diversity, cultural and social justice programs/events and educational initiatives for the Butler community
  • Support the collaboration with campus and community partners in the design and execution of diversity and social justice programming and
    educational opportunities
  • Manage the collection, coordination and information sharing of college, unit, campus-wide DEI programs
    and events (such as through a centralized DEI event calendar)
  • Coordinate campus efforts to celebrate recognized heritage month
    celebration month programs/events
  • Research community and national diversity and social justice engagement opportunities.
  • Work in a collaborative manner with others across the University to coordinate DEI efforts across campus
  • Gather data and make
    recommendations regarding programs and initiatives, processes, and procedures
  • Develop reports, presentations, promotional
    materials, newsletters, and other communications
  • Curate list of recommended posts for social media engagement related to DEI and
    collaborates with marketing to capitalize on social media accounts and influencers to drive internal and external awareness and support
    (Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook)
  • Coordinate administrative needs for DEI program, including meeting set up, material prep,
    communication reminders, vendors, and campus activities
  • Occasionally work special events outside of normal business hours on and
    off campus
  • Provide support for in-person and virtual activities from development to implementation: work with the team to identify
    relevant topics, appropriate speakers and materials needed for a variety of programs and initiatives, coordinate space, catering, vendor
    arrangements, event and program logistics; compile event-related information such as descriptions, biographies, photos, consent forms,
    presentation slides, etc.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma and at least two year’s
    work experience
  • Capacity to work independently and to effectively manage multiple tasks
  • Strong verbal and written
    communications skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Posses creativity and openheartedness
  • Demonstrated commitment
    to and extended knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Basic knowledge of restorative justice and/or an openness to learning
    about it as an approach to advancing diversity, inclusion, belonging, equity, and justice
  • Strong ability to build and sustain
    relationships as well as collaborate with campus and community partners
  • Ability to prioritize multiple commitments, meetings,
    programs, etc.
  • Proficiency in Office 365, including Teams, and other communication tools

Preferred
Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of the multiple dimensions of diversity, inclusion, and belonging, including, but
    not limited to religious diversity, race, ethnicity, culture, class, socioeconomic status, age, disability, gender, nationality, sexual
    identity, and sexual orientation
  • Demonstrated experience in event/program planning and execution
  • Experience in
    community-building within institutions and beyond
  • Sound judgment, high ethical standards, discretion, and tact
  • Ability to
    work with different teams in a diverse, dynamic environment
  • Strong interest in advancing the mission and vision of Butler
    University office of DEI
  • Experience responding appropriately with empathy and compassion to individual and community
    challenges
  • Demonstrated successful experience working with BIPOC and other systemically minoritized students, faculty, and
    staff
  • Experience and demonstrated competency in problem solving, planning, and discovery/research
  • 2 years of DEI, cultural
    or social justice program work in a higher education or related setting
  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline
    (anthropology, sociology, social sciences, or related field)
  • Experience in website and social media management
