Position Overview
The Assistant Director facilitates robust diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programming,
training, and support for students and student groups throughout campus. They will advance BU|BeWell with the creation, implementation, and
assessment of DEI-based engagement focused on the student experience and development.
Overall, the Assistant Director will actively
contribute to the vibrant campus environment and collaborate with students, colleagues, and community partners to enhance the holistic
development of the Butler University student body.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a resource and advocate
for student organizations affiliated with the Efroymson Diversity Center. Provide learning opportunities and ongoing support for student
organization leaders and members. Work closely with faculty advisors and campus partners to ensure successful operations of the student
organizations. - Provide direction regarding student event planning including, but not limited to planning meetings, contract
support, supply ordering, marketing, policy adherence, setup, attendance at/participation in events, logistical support,
documentation/photos, crisis prevention/response, clean up, reflection/surveys, etc. - Collaborate with colleagues to coordinate
Efroymson Diversity Center programs and services that contribute to student belonging, equitable access to resources, and sustainable
success. - Develop and facilitate DEI-related co-curricular development opportunities for students that promote greater cultural
awareness/understanding, social justice, and culturally-relevant leadership development. Student groups include, but are not limited to:
mentors, student organizations, Student Government Association, and Residence Life student staff. - Contribute to a highly engaged
Butler student experience including evenings and some weekends. Collaborating with colleagues to support programs and initiatives that
engage students in meaningful ways; being present for co-curricular programs; and supporting student trips, retreats, and other
institution-sponsored initiatives - Collaborate with Student Affairs colleagues to create, manage, evaluate, revise, and implement
policies and procedures to facilitate equitable and meaningful experiences for students. - Represent the Efroymson Diversity Center
within division-wide committees and work groups. - Supervise Student Assistants – hiring, training, and providing development
opportunities, approving hours, overseeing students’ work, and providing them with personal and professional support. - Provide
general support and advising to students within the Efroymson Diversity Center by being available in the physical space, when possible.
Manage and maintain the day-to-day operations of the space to ensure its resources are accessible. - Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education, or related field
is required. - Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
- Ability to establish and maintain
strong, collaborative working relationships - Experience working directly with students from marginalized/underrepresented
backgrounds and identities - Understanding of college student development
- Experience advising college students
- Desire to have a high level of engagement with students
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively manage
multiple priorities
