About the Position:

The Assistant Director of Multicultural
Student Services (AD-MSS) leads initiatives and programs supporting Western’s strategic goals in equity, excellence, and inclusion for
our students. The AD-MSS will support and lead an excellent team of professional staff and student employees. The AD-MSS will develop and
lead co-curricular programs and create inclusive spaces supporting students’ retention and holistic development. This will include
developing programs which center racial and ethnic identities, experiences, and histories, with a focus on marginalized and intersecting
identities. These programs will provide opportunities for transformational learning, develop students’ skills in intercultural
communication, community building, conflict resolution, and offer inclusive celebrations.

Required
Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree
  • Five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional experience
    working in programs related to access, diversity, equity, and inclusion, including significant relevant experience in higher education.
  • Experience effectively advising students and/or young adult leaders to support their leadership development, including demonstrated
    success providing culturally responsive advising services to BIPOC students.
  • At least two years of experience supervising
    professional staff and student employees.
  • Experience advising student clubs and organizations.
  • Experience designing and
    delivering programming and trainings that advance positive identity development and build leadership skills for students who hold multiple
    marginalized identities.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage students of diverse identities in intercultural learning and dialogue.
  • Strong small and large group facilitation skills and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform job
    responsibilities collaboratively with colleagues and students across departments and disciplines.
  • Experience developing and
    managing budgets.
  • Knowledge of student leadership and student development theories and their applications in practice.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills, excellent professional judgment, and the ability to make decisions that align
    with organizational mission and goals.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in strategic planning and assessment of programs,
    services, and/or student learning outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in
    a field related to job responsibilities, for example: Student Affairs Administration, Education, Ethnic or Cultural Studies, or
    Psychology.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in multicultural services or identity-based resource centers in higher
    education.
  • Fluency in a second language (other than English).
