Job Description
The University of Puget Sound is hiring a Director of Technical Theatre to join our Department of Theatre Arts!
The Director of Technical Theatre oversees all areas of production including set, lighting, costumes, props, sound, and video for an annual season of five to ten productions in addition to designing for one to two faculty-directed productions each year (scenic, lighting, or sound), managing the scenic shop, training and supervising crew, maintaining and operating the production spaces and assets, and serving as production manager for the season. The Director of Technical Theatre serves as an expert in scenic construction, an advisor and supervisor for lighting, costumes, props, sound, and video, and coordinates all departments as a production manager for the season.

Predominantly working M-F during regular business hours with some evening and weekend hours during tech weeks

To be considered for this role, a candidate must:
Five years or more professional technical theater experience; or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge
Training and experience serving in a management role in a production department at a theater, live event venue, or a related field
Knowledge of basic theatre technology (scenic, lighting, properties, sound, and video) and production management processes
Proven experience executing theatrical production designs (scenic, lighting, or sound) for academic or professional contexts
Experience with scene shop technology and procedures, and an understanding of the proper use and maintenance of woodworking machinery and power tools
Ability and interest in supervising student employees, especially those with limited training, and mentor them while they learn their skills
Respectfully work, communicate, and provide leadership within a diverse campus community.
Compensation and Benefits:
The pay range for this position is $28. 84 – $31.50 per hour or $60,000 to $65,520 annually. Decisions about starting salaries are made based on the extent and relatedness of the candidate’s education and experience and on internal equity and market considerations.
This position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
