Summary
Tulane University seeks an
innovative and highly motivated professional for the position of Archivist and Curator for Centennial Projects at the Stone Center for Latin
American Studies reporting to the Executive Director of the Stone Center. The Archivist and Curator will develop a collecting strategy that
defines the critical historical documents in the Stone Center’s archive and related university and private collections, including the
Zemurray-Stone Archive, for a digital humanities project that will culminate in 2024. This position will work collaboratively with faculty,
staff, and alumni to identify and facilitate new materials to be digitalized and participate in the planning of the Centennial Project.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
– Strong written and oral communication skills in English and
Spanish.
– Knowledge of library and archival standards and best practices, management, and use.
– Understanding of current and
emerging approaches to acquiring, preserving, and promoting primary source materials that include institutional records, correspondence,
publications, ephemera, photographs, films, and sound recordings.
– Understanding of privacy, confidentiality, copyright and use policies
associated with special collections materials.
– Ability to identify and handle fragile materials with care.
– Excellent oral and
written communication skills, organizational skills, and time management skills.
– Ability to work in a team-based environment and be
responsive to changing priorities.
Required Education and/or Experience:
– Master’s Degree in the Liberal Arts
and Sciences with extensive, demonstrated knowledge of Latin American Studies or a Library and Information
– 2 years of experience
working in an academic research environment
Preferred Qualifications:
– Graduate Degree in Latin American Studies
or History, Anthropology, Literature, or a social science field with a concentration in the Latin American region.
– Familiarity with
archival content management systems, such as Archon, Archivists’ Toolkit, or Archives Space.
– Experience writing grants and/or
implementing grant projects.
– A record of professional engagement through committee work, presentations, and/or publication, and
knowledge of current and emerging trends in the information field.
– Familiarity with digital technologies and best practices that
support digital scholarship or digitization.
– Knowledge of key developments in the history of the study of Latin America in U.S.
universities and institutions.
Compensation Information
This position is a non-exempt, hourly position assigned to pay grade 23.
