This is a full time hourly seasonal job working the production season from September to April (9 months). The posted annual salary range is $45,000 – $55,000. What You’ll Do

Assist in advancing the technical aspects of live events, on-site stage management, liaising with tour managers, and provides administrative support to the Production Operations team.

Responsibilities*

Duties include but not be limited to:

  • Stage Manage touring companies (orchestras, theater, chamber ensembles, etc.) 
  • General production correspondence (email, phone, other). 
  • Collect, finalize, submit, and track invoices, log expenses, and reconcile monthly statements (AMEX bills/petty cash/other). 
  • Contribute to production schedule creation and development, providing organization, refining, and disseminating to venue staff, UMS colleagues, and relative vendors. 
  • Work with the Production Director and Technical Director to coordinate meetings and site-visits. 
  • Work with all stakeholders to inform and report relative information through the generating of post-show reports. 

General Production Administrative Duties include: 

  • Online file management (Dropbox, Network Drive, Google Drive) and vendor contact management. 
  • Operates and manages a centralized calendar system (production, live events, loadin/out, venue filming initiatives, learning & engagement events). 
  • Operates as scheduling liaison with UMS departments for all additional in-venue artistic activities (pre-show, post-show, workshops, other). 
  • Manages departmental and wider UMS office communications / data organization (Production Schedules, Seat Kills Tracking, other) as they relate to production-supported engagements. 
  • Monitors and maintains relative office supply inventories. 

Technical Coordination & specific Venue Support responsibilities include: 

  • Act as stage manager and on-site representative for a share of UMS live events. 
  • Liaises with University departments: Plant operations, LS&A Scheduling (MLB rooms), Parking Services and various contractors. 
  • Provides redundancy / additional support for Technical Director when appropriate. 
  • Provides redundancy / additional support for Company Liaison when appropriate. 

Other/General: 

  • Provides organizational assistance and problem-solving initiatives at all times. 
  • Awareness of/experience with other department job functions. 
  • Manager overall state, cleanliness, and efficiency of UMS Prod-Op office facilities. 

Required Qualifications*

  • Minimum 3-years of professional experience within a producing, repertory, or presenting performance environment. Experience shall include: team contract review and rider fulfillment, calendar planning/management, data organization & delegation, and financial tracking and reconciling. 
  • Practical skills and experience in modern professional theater practices as well as openness for evolving trends and approaches. 
  • Initiative and ability to work independently, while thriving in a team-based environment. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (phone, email, in-person, zoom, other). 
  • Strong writing skills to prepare a variety of correspondence, reports, and schedules with great attention to detail. 
  • Demonstrated organizational ability under pressure to work on multiple projects with competing deadlines, establishing goals, and workload priorities. 
  • A high level of professionalism that reflects well on the organization which demonstrates customer service values to artists, invited guests, and touring production personnel. 
  • Ability to handle the public with professionalism in a backstage environment. 
  • Demonstrated skills to effectively motivate and offer support to fellow team members.  
  • Proficiency with Google Suite, Dropbox, Microsoft Office, and network file storage platforms. 
  • At least 2 years experience working with IATSE labor crews, for theater, dance, classical and/or contemporary music is preferred. 
  • Experience Stage Managing small ensembles and straight-forward music programs. 
  • Willingness to improve systems, rethink possibilities, and engage in tough conversations to reach new goals. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a performing arts field is desired. 
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including many evening and weekend hours. 
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to operate University vehicles is required. 
  • This position requires considerable use of arms and legs and activities such as balancing, walking, and the moving of materials, which at times weigh as much as 50 pounds, to elevated locations.

Work Locations

This full-time seasonal position is based in Ann Arbor, MI.  UMS Hybrid work agreements are reviewed annually and are subject to change depending upon business needs.
