Position Salary Range

General Responsibilities

The Studio Manager & Gallery Assistant supports the Visual Arts department through management and oversight of the studio classroom spaces, storage spaces, and supply inventory. Working with the department chair and academic coordinators, the studio manager, helps to develop, write, and implement studio policies including standard operating procedures for care, maintenance, and access.
As gallery assistant, this position supports the Horowitz Center Art Galleries and Gallery Manager & Curator in the operations of the Rouse Company Foundation Gallery and the Richard B. Talkin Family Gallery.

This team-member must be comfortable engaging with a wide range of college and community members including full-time faculty, part-time faculty, staff, volunteers, and guests.

This is an 11-month position (August-June). Time is divided between both aspects of the position as needed by the individual areas. Days and times are negotiable, but may include evenings or weekends depending upon the requirements of the department, the art galleries, and the exhibition schedule.

Employees with appropriate credentials may be eligible to teach studio art classes dependent upon the needs of the Visual Arts department. However, there is no guarantee that classes will be available at the time this position begins.

Work Performed

Studio Manager Responsibilities:

  • Manage, clean, and maintain the studio spaces
  • Manage and maintain departmental storage spaces
  • Develop and maintain studio policies and procedures and maintain safety binders.
  • Manage the inventory online system (along with the application developer and the department chair) as well as the physical inventory in department suite.
  • Order supplies as needed and work with Chair to maintain instructional supplies budget line.
    • Update the Visual Arts Budget sheet (Google Sheets) to keep real-time and accurate funds.
    • Receive orders and maintain copies of invoices
  • Work with Coordinators or Chair to facilitate studio pertinent departmental initiatives.
  • Coordinate with Facilities department or Theater Tech Team when necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned to ensure regular semester operations of the Visual Arts department.

Gallery Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates with Gallery Manager and Curator directly for primary duties which may include:
    • Aid in exhibition installation and exhibition lighting
    • Preparation and maintenance of gallery spaces including storage spaces
    • Inventory and general upkeep
    • Preparation of exhibition materials such as wall labels and price sheets
    • Support in hosting gallery receptions
  • Departmental gallery duties will include managing forms and receipt of work for student exhibitions.

Minimum Education Required: Associate’s degree

Minimum Number of Years Experience Required: 1

Other Knowledge Required

  • Associate’s degree or higher in Studio Art or related field
  • Experience in a range of art media
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office & Google Drive
