Job Description:

Function of Position:

Reporting to the Coordinator of Course-Based Learning Assistance, Embedded Tutors work with other students to help them to develop effective learning strategies and to become self-regulated learners. These tutors are embedded directly into a particular section of a selected course to help students with discipline-specific content and learning and study strategies, to foster the development of more independent, intentional learners. Embedded tutors provide academic support to students in the section only to which the tutor is assigned and should attend the course once per week (as an audit). 

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Foster the development of independent, intentional learners;  
  • Help students understand and use effective learning strategies  
  • Provide tutor assistance in subject areas in one-on-one and group settings  
  • Develop and nurture rapport with students, peers, and faculty  
  • Attend training activities to comply with certification requirements before and/or during semesters  
  • Adhere to tutoring center protocol and tutoring expectations as outlined in the Tutor Handbook  
  • Promote critical thinking and problem solving  
  • Help to identify and fill learning gaps with discipline specific content  
  • Collaboration with lead instructors to identify specific student needs
  • Individualized instruction and supervision
  • Promotion of independence
  • Development of time management skills
  • Establishment of a collegial learning environment

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Associates degree or higher
  • Experience working with diverse college populations
  • Hospitality or culinary experience and/or training
  • Technology savvy

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Some tutoring experience

Job Type:  Part Time

Hours:  10-20 Hours per Week
