Job Title:

Regional Math Specialist

Job Summary:

The Regional Math Specialist is responsible for supporting Miami Regional’s mathematical course offerings with emphasis on gateway math and co-requisite courses. The Regional Math Specialist also evaluates assessment and placement and supports students who are not ready for college-level assignments through consultation and coaching. This position trains and supports math tutors, supplemental instruction leaders, and math study groups.

Duties/Physical Demands:

The duties include and are not limited to: Develop and maintain curriculum for co-requisite courses for pre-college level learners (examples: credit-bearing, supplemental instruction, or non-credit workshop support). Assist with course schedule development for math courses (examples: credit-bearing, supplemental instruction, or non-credit workshop support) offered by the Tutoring and Learning Center. Recruit, train, assess, and supervise tutors for math student support programs offered by the Tutoring and Learning Center. Teach up to 12 credit hours, including non-credit workshop equivalent hours, per academic year in the assigned area (examples: developmental math, supplemental instruction, non-credit workshop support, or student success courses). Assess new student math proficiency markers, making suggestions and recommendations for placement through the use of placement assessment tools and consultation with students. Create, promote, and evaluate basic math support programs such as tutoring, supplemental instruction, and non-credit workshops. Maintain connection with the pre-college program (Aspire) to ensure program alignment. Maintain connection with Miami Regionals Mathematics and Physical Science department to ensure program alignment. Support/coach a caseload of academically at-risk students during their first year of college matriculation.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or relevant field; 3 years of student success experience supporting college students in mathematical areas, such as developmental mathematics, college algebra, trigonometry or introductory statistics; Experience in mathematical instruction within a college environment; Experience working with at-risk students.

Desired Qualifications:

Consideration may be given to candidates with experience coordinating a tutoring or supplemental instruction program; Experience teaching mathematics using co-requisite delivery; Experience with Canvas LMS; Experience with mathematics software programs; Knowledge of recent pedagogical and learning science research in mathematics education; Excellent written and verbal communication; Experience with google suite products; Experience with spreadsheets.
