Primary Function: Responsible for interfacing with faculty, program directors, student life, and other campus offices to support student success. Maintain daily operations in the Academic Success Center, facilitating learning-support services with staff, including peer and professional content tutors and supplemental instruction leaders. Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate peer and professional tutors. Manage semester tutoring schedules. Hire, train, evaluate and supervise Academic Success Center office assistants. Supervise time management tutoring: provide direct tutoring during weekdays, and schedule, hire, train, and evaluate part-time professional Academic Skills tutors. Work with First Year Advising to help monitor students on academic probation and other projects supporting retention. Provide non-credit workshops and special sessions to undergraduate and graduate students on topics such as time management, study strategies, etc. Promote Academic Success Center in the areas of Academic Support Services, including the web page and other promotional materials, as well as direct outreach.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Recruit, hire, train, evaluate, and supervise Academic Success Center office assistants and subject professional content and time management tutors
  • Hire peer tutors and train for CRLA certification through a series of workshops offered throughout the academic year
  • Facilitate academic learning support/tutoring by communicating with professors, tutors, students, and advisors, filing requests for tutoring and providing the university with a semester-based tutoring schedule
  • Manage daily operations at the Academic Success Center, including Supplemental Instruction, group tutoring, and one-on-one sessions
  • Follow up on all Starfish tutoring referrals for peer and subject content tutoring
  • Provide non-credit workshops and special sessions to undergraduate and graduate students on time management and study skills
  • Conduct one-on-one academic skills tutoring for students including traditional, graduate, and nontraditional students
  • Co-coordinate the Academic Probation Success Intervention Program, along with First Year Advising and Upper Level Advising, for students who are on academic probation at the university
  • Represent the Academic Success Center at various campus events and present to students, parents, faculty, staff, and stakeholders
  • Create outreach materials and updated information for the Academic Success Center website

EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

Master’s Degree in Higher Ed Education or related field

Experience working with peer tutors, supplemental instruction, and engagement with faculty required

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: One to two years’ experience in higher education, specifically in the delivery and development of academic assistance supporting retention. Experience working with faculty and students in a learning support setting. Training and management of student peer tutors and office assistants preferred.
