Position Overview
The Arabic STARTALK program at the
University of Kansas will be a summer 2023 language institute. The program will host K-12 students from Lawrence, KS and the surrounding
area’s high schools and middle schools. There are 16 students in this language program.
Students will meet with the Arabic STARTALK
staff at KU for three weeks (46 hours of instruction). Both linguistic and cultural experiences will be enhanced in this summer language
program. The goal of the STARTALK 2023 program will be to get our students to Novice-Mid level. The program begins on July 3 and ends July
20.
The class assistants will be native speakers of Arabic with experience in teaching Arabic; they will be familiar with the best
practices in teaching the language. These individuals will work closely with experienced instructors (lead instructor and a K-12 pedagogical
expert). The class assistants will work closely with Arabic instructors who have experience teaching Arabic in K-12 and college settings.
Assistants will be involved in assessment, material creation, and feedback; more importantly, they will assist in implementing cultural
themes related to the language.

Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalency
- Native or near-native
proficiency of the Arabic language, as indicated in application materials - Experience teaching Arabic, as demonstrated in application
materials
