BACKGROUND

Founded in 1975, Mountwest Community &
Technical College, one of nine public institutions of the West Virginia Community & Technical College system, is the westernmost
community college of the Mountain State. Previously an extension of Marshall University, Mountwest became a separate institution in 2008 as
a result of a legislative change. Four years later, in 2012, Mountwest relocated on a “mount” just off of interstate 64. This
Tri-State region of West Virginia, where Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia join in the Ohio River Valley, is perfect placement to attract
students from all three areas. The Institution is an accredited, two-year college offering credit and non-credit programming.

STUDENTS, PROGRAMMING & CAMPUS

While the majority of the student population are West
Virginians, the college serves a substantial number of “metro” students from the bordering states, as well as online students
from all around the country. On average, we have an enrollment of approximately 1500 students each semester.

Students enjoy a
beautiful and safe 30-acre main campus in Huntington, WV. The campus is located on top of a “mount”, located approximately a
5-minute drive from the city. The campus features a comprehensive student center, for all enrollment & student life needs. The campus
also provides resources for students such as a bookstore, library, tutoring and writing center.

Mountwest offers a diverse program
catalog, with over 50 majors and concentrations, including healthscience, information technology, business, and more. In addition to
Associate in Applied Science degreeofferings, Mountwest also offers Associate in Arts and Associate in Science pathways for those planningto
pursue a baccalaureate degree at a partnering institution.

The College also has two extensioncenters: a production style culinary
arts center and the Maritime Academy, where students can get firsthandexperience in preparation for entering the workforce. Mountwest also

  • Salary is commensurate witheducation and experience,
    $90,000-$95,000/year.
  • Summary: Leads the Student Services Department and provides strategic direction in support of
    theCollege’s strategic plan, goals, and mission.

Minimum Qualifications:

 A Master’s
degree and 5 years of experience leading Student Services in highereducation, or similar experience in a related field, preferably in
community & technical colleges.Supervisory experience is required. Community & technical college experience is preferred. The
successfulcandidate will exhibit excellent communication, leadership, and planning skills. A baseline knowledge ofthe areas of advising,
financial aid, registrar, and admissions is required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Strategically
    collaborate with college personnel to create and implement enrollment managementstrategies.
  • Recommends, develops and implements
    student services policies, procedures and practices whichfoster and promote student learning and student success, and which support the
    educationalprograms of the College; recommends organizational structures, personnel and resources to ensurea student-centered /
    learner-centered environment at all levels.
  • Represents the College to various external entities and with outside agencies in
    matters relating tothe College’s student services.* Provides leadership for evaluating and ensuring quality in all aspects of the
    College’s student services,student development and enrollment management programs and staff.
  • Prepares appropriate reports;
    analyzes and evaluates enrollment and retention data; projects studentenrollment and retention data to be used in strategic decision
    making.
  • Manage and communicate enrollment and retention trends, as well as develop effective strategies toincrease and retain
    student numbers.
  • Oversees the Student Services department, including but not limited to registration, financial aid,admissions,
    retention, advising, Veterans Services, Career Support, Student Code of Conduct, Title IX,and ADA Accommodation support, and
    Self-Registration.
  • Manage a team of 15-20 Student Services employees with an approachable leadership style, with emphasis on the
    ability to manage multiple personalities and empowering/developing employees.
  • Manage the departmental budget, including the
    professional development budget for the division.
  • Collaborate with academics, institutional advancement, finance, and other
    division in support of the mission, strategic plans, and goals of the College.
  • Supports College activities and special events
    through attendance and/or participation.
  • Role requires travel, some weekends, and evening to support institutional demands.
  • Lead and serve of student success committees and other College committees.
  • Serves as a member of the Executive Staff and
    President’s Council.
  • Keep current with higher education and enrollment trends to facilitate continuous improvement of
    department processes and strategy.
  • Communicate issues, trends, ideas, and strategies to the department, as well as across the
    college.
  • Performs related duties as assigned or as directed.
