The University of Houston System (UHS) and the University of Houston (UH) seek an exemplary leader to
serve as the chief student affairs officer at one of the nation’s most dynamic systems of public higher education and its leading Tier
One flagship university, the University of Houston. In the concurrent roles of Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs for UHS and the Vice
President for Student Affairs UH, this executive will join a multi-talented and innovative public research university community making
considerable progress on its determined course toward excellence and impact. Moreover, this is an opportunity to lead the University of

This position will serve in a dual role as Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs of the University
of Houston System (UHS) and Vice President for Student Affairs at the University of Houston (UH). Reporting directly to Chancellor Renu
Khator, the VC/VP serves as the chief student affairs officer and provides vision and leadership for all student affairs programs and
activities while seeking to enhance student life and support the strong academic progress and growth of the university as a Carnegie Tier
One research University. The VC/VP administers a comprehensive range of programs and services related to campus programming and planning;
assists in creating a campus culture that promotes the academic achievement and personal development of all students (undergraduate,
graduate, and professional); assists with crisis response and institutional initiatives; advocates on behalf of students; and fosters
collaborative and inclusive relationships among students, faculty, and staff across the UH System.
The Vice Chancellor/Vice President
for Student Affairs leads an executive team which provides strategic direction and administrative oversight of the Division of Student
Affairs , consisting of the following units: Student Housing and Residential Life; Student Health Center; Campus Recreation; Counseling and
Psychological Services; UH Wellness; Dart Student Accessibility Center; Cougars in Recovery; University Career Services; Assessment and
Planning; Center for Student Empowerment; Marketing and Communications for Student Affairs; Chief Development Officer for Student Affairs;
Student Conduct; Women and Gender Resource Center; Veteran Services; Children’s Learning Center; International Student and Scholar
Services; IT Services and Center for Student Media; Student Centers; Center for Fraternity and Sorority Life; Center for Student
Involvement; and LGBTQ Resource Center.
Qualifications
An earned doctorate in higher education, student
affairs administration, or a closely related field; at least 10 years of progressive student affairs leadership experience in higher
education; experience with innovative best practices that impact student engagement and success; evidence of leadership in student affairs
professional associations; demonstrated leadership in and understanding of the importance of compliance with regulatory laws, policies, and
procedures; a commitment to the mission and values of a public university, including shared governance, public service, and access; a proven
track record of implementing impactful strategies leading to improved student engagement, development, student life, and student success;
the ability to effectively manage operations of a complex enterprise with a service oriented culture; the ability to communicate clearly and
work cooperatively and transparently with administrators, faculty, students, staff, and external constituencies and an appreciation and
understanding of the need for collaboration and synergy among these groups; the ability to provide intellectual leadership to UH’s
broad and diverse community and serve as a champion for student success; knowledge and understanding of the current legislative, regulatory,
and public policy environment that directly impacts student affairs; a track record of building a culture of support and service that is
flexible and responsive to student needs; strong evidence of an entrepreneurial mindset and demonstrated leadership in planning,
administration, personnel management, residential development (including public/private partnerships), living-learning community
development, first-year experience programming, astute budgeting and financial acumen; demonstrated use of data to make informed decisions
and technology to deliver information and services to students effectively and efficiently; strong interpersonal skills; and a good listener
and relationship builder.
