Our Academic AVP will provide leadership to personnel and management regarding procedures and processes in assigned areas. The AVP will coordinate activities and work with academic supervisors in the General Studies discipline area to resolve faculty and student issues and will collaborate with personnel from across the college and community in support of the College mission – transforming lives and futures within our communities. The AVP of General Studies provides administrative oversight to the General Studies discipline areas, and oversees the assigned staff. Responsible for exemplifying our core values daily – caring, communication, collaboration and celebration.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Aligns General Studies discipline areas with academic and public sector needs.
  • Provides leadership in the course and programmatic design, instructional delivery, and assessment activities, conducting research and analysis to evaluate the viability of new and existing programs.
  • Provides overall leadership for the General Studies programs, faculty, and staff.  
  • Provides management oversight of all curriculum planning, program development and implementation, and program review, supervision, and leadership to staff.
  • Provides leadership in strategic planning for the division, budget development, and the creation and assessment of institutional effectiveness measures in all assigned areas.
  • Helps identify and secure appropriate institutional resources to support the professional development of General Studies faculty and staff.
  • Responsible for area alignment with college strategic initiatives and facilitates the preparation of short- and long-term plans in support of college mission, vision, and goals.
  • Oversees the development of marketing strategies and outreach processes leading to enrollment and programmatic recognition and growth.
  • Ensures division compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, accrediting commissions, licensing requirements, administrative regulations, and Board policies as appropriate.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education
Minium: Master’s degree in a General Studies discipline or in educational leadership.
Preferred: Doctoral degree in a General Studies discipline or in educational leadership. 

Experience/Training: 
Minimum: 

  • Five (5) years of mid- to senior-level supervisory management, leadership, and budgeting experience in academic programs.
  • Background in program development and training, needs assessment, grant development, and grants administration.
  • Practical involvement in developing and implementing a variety of academic programs.
  • Commitment to collaborating with faculty on creating and implementing seated, online, and blended course designs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a personal commitment to equity.
  • Strong communication, written, and oral skills as well as experience presenting information and summary reports internally and to the public.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Experience working in a collaborative manner with diverse constituencies.

 Preferred: above listed experience in a post-secondary setting

  • Proven expertise in planning and executing operational plans, managing projects and/or programs, budgeting, and cost control. 
  • Strong managerial and team building skills and demonstrated ability to motivate and empower direct and indirect reports to achieve area priorities. 
  • Ability to diagnose, plan and manage resource requirements for own area, including staffing, budgets, equipment, etc. 
  • Ability to partner with others across the College and externally to exchange information, collaborate on projects, share resources, etc. 
  • Ability to influence others of the benefits/importance of an idea or plan of action and to gain their support or commitment. 
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to reach mutual points of agreement and benefit among peers and colleagues.
