A strong foundation is integral
to academic and artistic success, and the SCAD curriculum builds the visual, conceptual, and creative abilities that are essential to
students’ development as professionals. SCAD inspires students to push the boundaries of expression while mastering classical methods of
fine art instruction and practice.
As an associate dean, you will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the academic
departments. In collaboration with the dean of academics in Atlanta, you will develop strategic plans for the departments that are
consistent with the overall SCAD strategic plan, as well as provide professional development opportunities for professors. You will foster
collaboration across all departments at all locations. Among other responsibilities, you will also work with admission to recruit talented
undergraduate and graduate students to SCAD and continue to enhance the university’s reputation in academic and professional
circles.
The successful candidate has significant classroom experience, successful administrative experience in higher education, and
a distinguished record of scholarship and creative activity. The candidate demonstrates exemplary personnel and fiscal management
capabilities and a thorough understanding of program assessment strategies and strategic planning, as well as experience dealing with
external organizations such as business and industry, government agencies, and accrediting groups.
The use of current educational
technologies and the ability to lead in their use is preferred. The candidate should demonstrate innovation, energy, and personal and
professional integrity, as well as superior interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills. The ability to motivate and lead
students and faculty from a variety of backgrounds is required.
Requirements
-Terminal degree in illustration, sequential art,
photography, painting or a related discipline
-Proven leadership and supervisory experience
-Commitment to excellence in undergraduate
and graduate teaching
-Professional experience in a discipline housed within assigned schools preferred
Minimum
Qualifications:
– Terminal degree and significant professional experience in an appropriate discipline; or equivalent
combination of education and experience.
– Distinguished record of scholarship, teaching and/or professional expertise.
– Successful
administrative and strategic leadership experience in higher education and/or appropriate professional discipline.
– Relevant academic
and/or professional expertise in project, business and team management.
– Exemplary personnel and fiscal management capabilities.

Outstanding communication skills to establish a clear understanding of shared goals and responsibilities, and to generate enthusiasm toward
individual and team achievement.
– Leadership ability to transform strategic vision into implementation through measurable actions.
