Academic Advisor
Job Summary:
The Academic Advisor will be a part of the EHS Student Success Center with primary responsibilities for holistic academic advising for the central advising model. This includes: academic planning, connecting advisees with appropriate university resources, communicating relevant information verbally and electronically, and teaching a first-year experience or transition course. The duties and responsibilities of the position, after six months, allow for Academic Advisors to work remotely up to 40% of the time, when the job permits. Full-time work in Oxford, OH will be necessary at least 3 days a week. Remote work is a working arrangement that can be modified or revoked by Miami University at any time for any reason.

Duties/Physical Demands:
Duties include and are not limited to co-creating degree completion plans and articulating progress, setting and defining goals, interpreting campus policies and procedures, exploring academic programs and careers, referring to appropriate campus resources, engaging in academic intervention and outreach efforts, and supporting student development and engagement. Assists in recruiting and orienting new and prospective first year and transfer students through individual advising appointments, small group information sessions, and large-scale divisional events. Position allows for opportunities for project-based contributions, cross-training development, and focused work with specific student populations as interests align. Provides ongoing assessment and advising; acts as a resource for faculty; serves on committees/working groups; and performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean and Director of the EHS Success Center.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Counseling, College Student Personnel, Education, or Student Affairs and Higher Education or closely related field by date of appointment. Minimum of six (6) months of full-time academic advising experience (including experience gained during an educational program) in a college/university setting. Experience gained during a related graduate program can apply (graduate experience is prorated; 1 semester of an assistantship is equivalent to 2.25 months of full-time experience).
Desired Qualifications:
Consideration may be given to candidates with significant advising and professional experience in an undergraduate program in the area of education, health, or society; proven understanding of student development theory; experience working with diverse student populations; experience with advising, programming, and project management; excellent written and verbal communication (including public speaking); organization; technological and collaborative skills; familiarity with internet and technological applications, e.g. Student Success Collaborative (Navigate), transferology.com, Banner, uAchieve (degree audits), Oracle Business Intelligence; ability to work effectively and build relationships with a variety of stakeholders in different contexts, including faculty, staff, and students.
