Position Description
Performs academic advising,
educational, professional, or other basic academic advising or training at the individual or group level as appropriate. Work is performed
under supervision with performance based on individual advising effectiveness and overall program results
obtained.
Major/Essential Functions
- Provide educational guidance and assistance for students by planning schedules,
recommending courses and determining appropriate Honors education solutions for different types of students. - Serve as liaison and
foster intentional relationships with other advisors, offices colleges, and departments. - Maintain thorough and accurate records of
every student advising interaction using a variety of electronic record-keeping tools. - Assist with various Honors events including,
but not limited to, Medallion Ceremony (Fall and Spring), Honors Convocation (Fall), and Honors Thesis Day (Spring). - Participate in
events, activities and campaigns designed to improve retention. - Participate in planning, implementing, and evaluating the Colleges
academic advising program’s goals and objectives. - Engage in professional development activities, including but not limited to,
membership in professional organizations, attendance at conferences, workshops, division, and College training sessions. - Stay
current on changing institutional information including admissions requirements, new programs, course change deadlines, important dates,
expanding facilities, updates in college-wide initiatives, transfer requirements, and state and federal mandates. - Connect students
to appropriate resources for mental health and basic needs identification. - Promote student integration within the college and
university campus. - Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; one year related
experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability
to keep accurate, detailed records, ability to handle large volumes or work, excellent computer skills, experience in working with students,
customers, or clients, a minimum of two years work experience involving detailed work and customer service. Strong communication and
interpersonal skills. - Ability to make decisions in accordance with established regulations and policies, ability to interact with
students from widely diverse backgrounds, two years progressively responsible consulting experience, one year of which must involve advising
students in an academic environment. - Willingness to be certified in Mental Health First Aid.
- Experience working with Honors
students.
