Required Qualifications:
Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Experience working with children, adolescents, and/or college students in a professional or volunteer
capacity. - Work some hours outside of the normal Monday through Friday 8:00 to 5:00 (evenings and weekends). While working outside of
normal working hours is not common, it sometimes occurs to best serve current and future students. - Demonstrated skill in using
computer software, specifically MS Word and Excel (must address software individually). - Demonstrated ability to perform math
sufficient to calculate GPAs, percentages, and basic statistics for summarizing data. - Demonstrated experience presenting and/or
speaking to groups of 10 or more. - Demonstrated professional work experience interpreting and explaining complex policies and
procedures. - Demonstrated ability to write coherently and precisely.
- Demonstrated ability for attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate degree or hours towards a graduate degree.
- Graduate degree in
student development, higher education, or related field. - Professional academic advising experience in higher
education. - Demonstrated professional knowledge of Texas State academic policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated professional
experience using Banner student information software. - Demonstrated professional experience using Degree Works degree audit
software. - Evidence of professional accomplishments such as conference presentations, publications, committee leadership, performance
commendation or other related achievements.
Job Description
Provide academic advising to
undergraduate students majoring in the College of Science and Engineering.
Job Duties
- Advise students
on topics related to academic majors and degrees. - Coordinate, plan, and prepare for advising sessions.
- Refer and/or inform
students about university resources. - Maintain confidential student files and records through accurate and thorough
documentation. - Recognize and address the needs and concerns of a diverse student population.
- Assist in processing
applications for graduation. - Assist with the review and dissemination of the undergraduate catalog and other curriculum
information. - Disseminate policy and procedure information to students, departments, and other university
offices. - Participate in university recruitment and retention efforts by participating in Bobcat Days, Orientation, and other
university functions. - Prepare and deliver group presentations as needed at college and university events.
- Provide guidance
for College of Science and Engineering students who are not meeting expected academic standards. - Provide clerical and administrative
assistance to the office. - Perform other duties as assigned.
