Job Description

Job Summary:
Responsible for overseeing an academic advising program or unit; implementing current policies; developing new initiatives; understanding the academics needs of students; meeting individually with students; organizing events related to advising and outreach; facilitating exchanges of relevant information with other units.

Essential Duties:

  • Plans, develops, and implements all policies affecting a specific student population and facilitates campuswide coordination.
  • Advises student individually and collectively.
  • Represents the academic unit during meetings or other events with students, parents, faculty, or administrators, with some events occurring outside normal work hours.
  • Develops and oversees projects related to advising.
  • Assists with the recruiting and training of fulltime or part-time advisors.
  • Teaches one course for the department during each long semester.
  • Participates in professional conferences and other forms of professional development.
  • Coordinates advising with humanities departments and other units in the College of Liberal Arts.
  • Performs other duties as required by supervisor

Required Qualifications:
BA in English or closely aligned field; four (4) years of experience in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications:
MA or PhD in English or closely aligned field; six (6) years of experience in higher education.
